During the Rocket League World Championship, fans went for nearly 27 minutes doing the Mexican wave, shattering records along the way.
If you’ve been to a sporting event before then chances are you’ve seen or been a part of a Mexican wave, where fans circle the stadium all throwing their hands up into the air, creating what looks like a wave going around the sea of people.
Most times the wave will make it a couple of times around the arena before it dies out, but Rocket League fans had something different in mind.
There’s a new world record
Fans set the record but weren’t satisfied with just barely scraping by – they instead went for nearly 27 minutes, making sure nobody was going to come close to the record any time soon.
It’s an impressive record, and we’re sure that everybody involved won’t be lifting their arms for a while, and honestly, they deserve the rest.
Alex ‘Goldenboy’ Mendez shouted out community member Jonnie Paez for organizing the wave and encouraging them to break the previous record of 17 minutes and 14 seconds.
@GoldenboyFTWis the absolute GOAT for helping me make this happen. THIS IS @RocketLeague !!!! #RLCS7 @RLEsports @espn @GWR #RocketLeague #dothewave #mexicanwave #WorldRecord pic.twitter.com/n6FcqfA4GY

For whatever reason, the wave has become quite divisive in the sporting world with fans either loving or hating it, with not much room in between.
You can catch a glimpse of the wave in progress below, but a minute clip is not nearly long enough to capture the entire duration of it.
Rocket League has been known to have some very passionate fans, but there’s no way they saw this coming.
Now the question remains of how long will this record be able to stand before it is challenged? If we had to guess, we’d say it’s going to be standing for a long time.
