TikTokers aren’t happy to see a 2000s trend re-emerging in the modern age after a woman came across a store display that made her do a double-take.
TikTok is a hive for trends of all sorts, be it skincare, makeup, fashion, and more.
In fact, TikTok has made certain items of clothing and brands sell out in stores, as seen when a pink slip-dress went out of stock at Zara and Steve Madden bags suddenly became hard to come by at retailers last year.
It’s no secret that Y2K fashion is in full-swing these days as well… but one fashion trend that’s taking over the market isn’t being well-received by Millennials on social media.
TikTok doesn’t want dresses over jeans to make a comeback
On September 5, TikTok user Liv Rian was walking through a Supre women’s clothing store when she spotted a trend we all thought long-dead — dresses being layered over pants.
That’s not all; she also spotted a mannequin wearing a long jean skirt with a choker, bringing us clear back into the 2000s. The video quickly went viral, racking up over 11 million views in just two days.
While it’s nice to see old-school trends making their way back into the mainstream, it seems that this type of layering isn’t welcome among millennials, who were all too happy to leave it behind 20 years ago.

“I feel like this didn’t stay out of fashion long enough,” one commenter wrote.
“I can’t go through this era again,” another said.
“The dress and jeans combo cannot plague us again,” yet another lamented.
However, others were totally here for this Y2K moment, with one writing, “It was cute then and it’s cute now,” while another said, “It screams Hannah Montana.”
While we can’t see anyone dressing up like Ashley Tisdale’s infamous red carpet pics from her Disney Channel days, it’s clear that 2000s fashion is back in a huge way — whether we like it or not.
