Fnatic Tekkz explains why “no one” is enjoying FIFA 20

Tekkz slams EA for unrewarding FIFA 20Twitter: Fnatic / EA Sports

Fnatic’s Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt has joined the chorus of complaints aimed at FIFA 20, claiming EA’s latest release is the most “unrewarding” yet, for pro stars and casual players alike, in a post-match interview at FUT Champions Cup IV Paris.

As one of the best professional players in the FIFA scene, Tekkz is certainly an authority when it comes to EA’s football title—if he weighs in on something, from meta, to the best players, to the state of the game, you take notice.

This weekend, everyone certainly took notice as the Fnatic star donned a pair of shaded sunglasses and took aim at the most “unrewarding” FIFA he believes he’s played yet. He may have made it to the Paris semi-finals, but he’s far from happy.

Tekkz didn’t hold back in his scathing review of FIFA 20 at the FUT Champions Cup in Paris.

Tekkz surged through the Xbox One side of the Parisian bracket over the weekend, sweeping past Kaylan 6–3 in the quarterfinals before downing Brazilian stars Resende 2–1 and Felipe 4–0. It wasn’t much of an achievement though, he said.

Moments after his quarterfinal victory, Tekkz admitted “no one enjoys playing” FIFA 20, and suggested the ‘random’ nature of in-game interactions, from 50/50 tackles, to long-ranged passes, and converting chances, are all “broken.”

“Every single game on FIFA 20 is a 50/50, he’ll [defeated quarterfinals opponent Resende] win this one, I will win the next one,” he said. “Because this year’s game is so unrewarding, anyone can win, guys who aren’t good can win on FIFA 20.”

The outspoken star added “no one enjoys playing [the latest release],” and pointed to the new FIFA 20 meta, which sees top players employ the “Overload Ball Side” tactical instruction to make it practically impossible for attack-minded players to break down rearguard efforts, as a big reason why.

Tekkz wasn’t the only FIFA star to take EA to task in the past weeks either. Twitch streamer and former pro player Kurt ‘Kurt0411’ Fenech suggested the title’s devs had a “tyranny” over the entire gaming scene.

Fenech’s comments came after EA launched a series of copyright strikes against his channel following comments from the streaming star suggesting FIFA 20 marked a point of no return for the “unsavable” sports franchise.

“Warning to anyone that intends to call out EA on their bulls**t,” Kurt said after discovering the copyright strikes. “They will now copy-strike your content and try to get your channels deleted. This is a tyranny that will stop at nothing. I surrender.”

Msdossary was crowned Fifa 20 Xbox champion in Paris after defeating Tekkz 5–4.

While EA were swift in their response to Kurt, there’s been no indication if Tekkz will face a similar fate. Considering his top-four finish earned him a place at FUT Champions Cup V, he does, for now, have a spot at the next tournament.

The outspoken Tekkz ended his Parisian campaign with a 5–4 loss to Msdossary, who went on to lose 3–1 (1–1 on Xbox, 0–2 on PS4) on aggregate against Benfica’s Henrique ‘Zezinho’ Lempke in the Champions Cup grand final.
