The reported move by Real Madrid into esports by recruiting FIFA players in China has been denied by the club.
News websites across the esports industry, including us here at Dexerto, published a story on May 8th that the world famous football club had entered the competitive gaming space.
Based out of Spain’s capital, Real Madrid are one of the biggest sporting brands in the world, with an estimated value of around $4 billion.
Due to the size of their brand, news about the club entering into esports spread like wildfire across the internet. Unfortunately, it appears to be fake news.
The original post on Chinese social media site, Weibo, raised questions from Spanish journalists who wanted to know why the club hadn’t made their own announcement.
