You might have seen images floating around, with the beloved golden arches turned upside down into a ‘W’ shape, but what is the new WcDonald’s?

If you’re not in the loop with McDonalds’ new ad campaign which has their famous ‘M,’ turned on its head, then fear not, as we’ve got the lowdown.

It first began in 1981 manga and anime franchise Cat’s Eye, where we saw a surprisingly familiar fast food store in the show, suitably named ‘WcDoanld’s. Since, the fictional WcDonald’s has made an appearance in a series of popular anime shows throughout the years, including Bubble Bobble, City Hunter, Moldiver, and Otaku Elf, to name just a few.

In these cartoons, the WcDonald’s restaurants share many similarities with their originator, including sporting a clown mascot, and serving fast food items such as cheeseburgers, fish burgers, fries, and even a Big ‘Wac.’

In February, McDonald’s announced an exciting collaboration with Studio Pierrot, and Acky Bright, a famous Japanese manga artist, to tease a brand new ad campaign, where they finally make WcDonald’s canon.

What will the new WcDonald’s ad campaign look like?

As a part of the new campaign, fans can expect a bunch of exciting limited edition items, all featured in WcDonald’s packaging. Commenting on the new release, McDonald’s stated:

“Anime is a huge part of today’s culture, and we love that our fans have been inviting us into the conversation for years… The WcDonald’s universe is a reflection of what fans have created. It honors their vision and celebrates their creativity, while authentically bringing it to life in our restaurants for the first time ever.”

The new release includes a new sauce, affectionately the Savory Chili WcDonald’s Sauce, which pairs perfectly with a 10-piece WcNuggets meal.
