Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier in this month’s transfer window.
Chronicle Live are reporting this morning that the German champions are keen to sign the England international as they look to sign a new right-back.
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel said this week: “We are looking for a right-back who is strong in duels. We’ll see if something is possible.
“Nous Mazraoui is at the Africa Cup of Nations, but we have also gotten used to Konrad Laimer at right-back, even though it’s not his best position. If there’s an opportunity on the market, we’ll take it. Otherwise things will stay this way.”
Trippier’s former Tottenham and current England team-mates Harry Kane and Eric Dier are already at the Bavarian club and Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has already confirmed the Magpies will have to sell to buy in the transfer market.
Nonetheless, Trippier – who is under contract at St James’ Park until 2025 – remains a vitally important member of Newcastle’s squad and manager Eddie Howe would not be keen on a mid-season sale.
Why Kieran Trippier swapped Madrid for Newcastle
Tellingly, the player himself has already hinted at why a move to Munich would not make sense, when discussing why he swapped Atletico Madrid for Newcastle back in January 2022.

“I have no regrets in every decision I make. This was the perfect decision for me,” Trippier told the High Performance podcast.
Trippier opens up on why he left Madrid from 1:19:00 onwards
“There were loads of comments when I first signed saying I came for money or whatever I may be. What people don’t realise, I came here on less money than when I was at Atletico Madrid. I could’ve signed a new three-year contract at Madrid.
“I had to come back to England for my family, my children. We were going through a difficult moment. I’ve got my reasons for coming back.
“I wanted to come back up north, there was Newcastle, I had good chats with the manager and just thought, why not? I knew they were 19th in the league but I have no regrets even though I could have been playing in the Championship.
