Fans of Fortnite Battle Royale are gearing up for an eruption of the game’s Volcano that looks set to trigger another major in-game event and bring about huge changes to the current map.
At the start of Season 8, Epic Games introduced sweeping changes to the battle royale island – removing the north-east location of Wailing Woods and replacing it with a huge Volcano that towers over locations such as Sunny Steps.
Since its introduction to the game, fans have speculated about the future of the Volcano, specifically whether or not it would be the catalyst for the next set of map changes. It now appears as if they have the answer to that long-standing question.
Volcano smoke becoming thicker
Following the release of the recent v8.50 patch, a set of leaked files suggested that the volcano will, at some point, erupt and send meteors flying across the map. Those leaked files also included sound cues for what fans can expect to hear when the event begins.
That appears to be the case as in-game photos show that the plume of smoke that had appeared above the volcano has begun to get thicker and thicker – maintaining it’s incredibly ominous look in both day and nighttime settings.

Volcano eruption means destruction
Data miners like FNBRHQ and FortTory also uncovered leaked files that showed the demise of fan-favorite locations Tilted Towers and Retail Row. Following the upcoming eruption, the pair are set to be ravaged by the debris of molten rocks that will be spat out of the Volcano.
However, despite the huge amount of destruction that is on its way, it appears that one building will be left untouched – the ironically named “No Sweat Insurance” in Tilted Towers.
As you saw from recent leaks, the “Volcano Eruption” will be destroying the entirety of Tilted Towers except one building, which will be the “No Sweat Insurance” Building! #Fortnite pic.twitter.com/Crv9sK8MIy

There is no date or time set for the upcoming explosion and in-game event but with more and more details coming to light – plus the increased plume of smoke from the volcano – it appears as if we’re in the endgame now.
