Fortnite players will soon have a chance to compete for their share of $100,000 in-game, through a new duo tournament called ‘Scallywag Duo Cup’, as Epic Games test out their prize payment systems for the Fortnite World Cup.
Announced as part of the v8.10 update in Fortnite, the duo tournament will be players’ first chance to win real money prizes in-game, simply by playing from home.
However, it is only for the best of the best, as qualification is tight and only the most skilled players from each server region will get a spot in the first round, starting March 16.
How to qualify for Scallywag Duo Cup in Fortnite
To be eligible to play, you must be in the top 3% globally of either the Solo or Duo Gauntlet Test Event as of 12:00 AM ET on March 16.
All eligibly players will take part in round one, but the second round will wipe out most of the competition, with only the top 3,000 players from round one moving on.
Scallywag Duo Cup schedule
The first round, or semi-finals, of the Scallywag Duo Cup will take place on Saturday, March 16 with the second round, or finals, taking place on Sunday, March 17.
Each round will be its own three-hour session, but players will only be able to play a maximum of ten matches during each session.
Scallywag Duo Cup rules
The exact rules and point structure for the Scallywag Duo Cup have not yet been detailed by Epic, but presumably it will work with a similar system as previous in-game ‘Pop-Up’ cups.
Scallywag Duo Cup prize breakdown
The $100,000 prize pool will be split between six total regions, with the top 25 duos from each region being awarded a share based on the following breakdown:
