Gordon Hayward of the Boston Celtics has made a bold claim regarding his Fortnite: Battle Royale skills in comparison to other professional athletes.
Since his arrival to the NBA in 2010, Gordon Hayward has been transparent with his love for video games while off the court, including titles such as Starcraft II, League of Legends, Overwatch, and a variety of others.
The 2017 NBA All-Star even has an endorsement deal with HyperX, a gaming-headset company, along with a well-documented PC setup which allows him to broadcast his gameplay to the world.
After a devastating injury in the first game of the 2017-2018 NBA season saw him fracture his tibia and need to sit-out for the remainder of the year, Hayward had more time to spend playing video games throughout his rehabilitation process, which led him to be swept up in the Fortnite: Battle Royale phenomenon.

In an article released on his website, the Boston Celtics Small forward discussed his love for Fortnite, along with how watching Twitch streams of major personalities such as Ninja, DrLupo, and Tfue allows him to get better over time.
“I also watch a lot of streams in my free time, and everybody is streaming Fortnite right now. To me, that is the best part about Twitch. You can watch the best players play every day, and pick up the same strategies that they have. Personally, I think watching streamers play is the best way to get better, other than practicing yourself. So I watch Ninja, Tfue, DrLupo. It’s easy to watch what they do, and try to emulate it.”
However, Hayward believes that he has been able to separate himself from other players in the NBA and professional sports in general, and guarantees that he would ‘come out on top’ against any professional athlete in head-to-head Fortnite competition.
“But it would be actually really fun to have an all-NBA Fortnite match or something. I’ve been playing for a few months now, so I’m pretty confident I could come out on top. In fact, I’d almost guarantee it, and I’d be happy to take on anyone from any other sport, too.”
