Epic Games have finally addressed the overpowered B.R.U.T.E. mech suits in Fortnite Battle Royale, although the changes haven’t exactly been received all too well.
On August 9, Epic Games released their latest blog post on the competitive side of things in Fortnite, discussing their plans for competitions that will be taking place in Season X.
One of the topics brought up was the BRUTE mech suits, arguably the most controversial addition to the popular battle royale title in its nearly two years of existence.
Considering how negative the community feedback on these robots has been since the start of Season X, the developers announced that the next update will finally implement a nerf, if it can even be called that.
We’ve been monitoring the impact of the B.R.U.T.E. in gameplay and are investigating ways to enhance combat feedback when interacting with the vehicle. In v10.10, we will add a targeting laser that will show the direction the B.R.U.T.E. is aiming its rockets while they are being charged. This laser will have directional audio to help indicate when it’s being pointed at you, even if you’re behind a structure. We’ve also fixed a few mobility bugs that we’re allowing players to exploit its boost mechanic.
Players will now get a warning when being targeted by the BRUTE’s rockets.
Understandably, this news has done very little to appease the majority of the player-base, who has been asking for the removal of BRUTEs since the start of Season X.
This so-called nerf isn’t expected to have any kind of significant mitigating effect on the power of these robots, since it won’t do anything in terms of lowering their 1,000 HP health or limiting their ability to do immense damage during fights.
Instead, it will simply offer players a visual and auditory warning whenever they’re being targeted by a mech’s rockets, and the effectiveness of these warnings is yet to be seen.
Looks like the BRUTE mech suits are here to stay for the foreseeable future.
Ironically, Epic Games’ August 9 blog post has actually sent many players into further uproar, especially prominent members of the competitive and content creation communities.
This is because Epic also announced that the BRUTE mech suits will not be removed from any of the core default modes, meaning that they are to remain in both Arena and cash prize tournaments for the foreseeable future.
“The B.R.U.T.E. remains within the core game modes (Solo, Duos, and Squads), select Limited Time Modes, and in competitive Arena and Tournament play,” they wrote. “We’ll communicate any future iterations to the vehicle as we’re continuing to investigate a few more areas where we can improve combat interactions.”
This has garnered a lot of negative feedback in the short time since the post went live, and we’ve gathered some of the reactions below for your convenience.

Epic has AGAIN left a window open for a company to drop a BANGER game. Content creators do so much for a games player base and obviously viewership. They are all fed up with fortnite. Epic having no competition allows them to do whatever the hell they want.

While it may seem inevitable that Epic Games will eventually either heavily nerf or vault these robots, the developers seem to be standing their ground for now.
