Epic has pumped the brakes on all Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 2 competitions, including announcements on the Fortnite World Cup and Champion Series, in the wake of the game’s latest update, delaying tournaments until some major issues are fixed.
Fortnite’s pro scene has been in a bit of a lull since the release of Chapter 2: Season 2. Epic has been quiet on announcing any details regarding upcoming tournaments, including the Champion Series and the impending World Cup.
Given players learned about Fortnite World Cup 2019 specifics at the end of February last year, pros were expecting a bit more than radio silence before now. However, Epic has looked to ease concerns, saying they are working through some issues first before releasing any info.
In a March 2 statement on the Fortnite Competitive Twitter account, Epic mentioned they are ironing out many of the performance issues plaguing players since Season 2’s release.
“For Chapter 2: Season 2, we’re working to address performance issues impacting both clients and servers,” it said.
“Our goal is to improve performance before kicking off any cash-prized competition. We’ll keep you posted with schedule updates as soon as possible.”

“Finally an actual answer to why nothing has been going on,” said Luminosity’s ‘Kiwiz’. “Seriously don’t be scared to update the community so we actually know what’s happening.”
Fortnite’s first solo World Cup champion, Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf, dropped a “thank you” in reply to Epic’s statement. The Sentinels player is preparing for his title defense this year, although no details about the World Cup are known yet.
As for the Champion Series, there hasn’t been a word since play wrapped up for Chapter 2: Season 1 back in December 2019. While squads and trios have been cycled through in the last two seasons, and solos rumored to be the next format, nothing has been set in stone.

Cash Cups have also dried up since the release of Chapter 2: Season 2, with the last solo cash cup held back on January 30, three weeks before the update came out.
Epic did promise to update players when the situation changes, but until then, pros will have to keep running through scrims until this season’s events are announced.
