Adam Sussman, formerly of Nike, EA, and Take-Two, has joined Epic Games as the company’s new president.
Thanks to Fortnite, Epic Games are currently one of the biggest players in the gaming industry as the new decade begins. On top of the battle royale title, the company is also trying to break new ground in the PC gaming storefront with their own Steam competitor, the Epic Games Store.
Before Fortnite was a household name, Epic were known for the creation of the Unreal Engine, as well as the Gears of War franchise, which has since been handed over to Microsoft.
In 2020, hopping onto the Epic Games train is highly lucrative, and it seems that Sussman is down for the ride. This hire comes on the heels of Epic’s previous president, Paul Meegan, stepping down back in June 2019. Meegan had been with the company since 2012 until his departure.

The company’s new president has previous ties to the gaming industry, even though his most recent position was with notable shoe giant Nike. He broke the news of his departure on his LinkedIn profile.

“After 5.5 great years at Nike, I have decided to move on to my next opportunity as President of Epic Games,” Sussman wrote on LinkedIn. “Nike is an amazing brand, I got a chance to work with many great people and I am so proud of what we accomplished together. While it’s bittersweet, I am so excited to join Epic and honored to be part of the remarkable team that has built one of the biggest games in the world.”
Before taking this position, Sussman was with Zynga, EA, Take-Two, and The Walt Disney Company. His time at both Zynga and EA revolved around mobile gaming, which makes his jump to Epic even more interesting.
Fortnite is available to play on mobile devices, and while this iteration hasn’t been around as long as its stint on other platforms, it continues to boast a large playerbase. As Epic continues to grow the game worldwide, its mobile version could be a big part of the game’s expansion, moving forward.
It’s far too early to know what impact Sussman will have on Epic as a whole, since he hasn’t properly settled in yet, but this development will be worth keeping an eye on for those interested in the company’s future pursuits.
