It’s that time of year again when Fortnite celebrates its birthday, this time turning 7 since it was released in 2017. Several skins, game modes, and collabs have been added since then, and thanks to all of these, it’s come a long way.
Fortnite is known to host a limited-time birthday event every year, offering a bunch of quests and free rewards players can obtain on top of adding certain nostalgic items back to the map.
We’ve compiled everything you need to know about Fortnite’s 7th Birthday event in 2024 below, including its start date, quests, rewards, and more.
Fortnite Birthday event start & end date
Fortnite’s 7th Birthday event begins on September 24 and ends on October 1 at 2 AM ET.
While Fortnite’s official birthday is on September 26th, the preparations begin a couple of days early, with update v31.20 receiving a hotfix on September 24. Tuesdays are when updates and hotfixes go live, so this comes as no surprise.

Birthday Battle Bus & items
During the Fortnite 7th Birthday event, you’ll notice things look a bit different: The Battle Bus gets a galaxy-themed revamp, and there’s Birthday Cake, Balloons, Birthday Presents, and even a Firework Flare Gun.
- Birthday Presents: A common Fortnite birthday tradition, presents are back. This time, when you break them open, there’s a chance you’ll find a Firework Flare Gun.
- Firework Flare Gun: Unlike the regular Flare Gun, the Firework Flare Gun can light up wooden structure to force your enemies out of hiding.
- Balloons: This mobility item is back to help you move around the Island.
- Birthday Cake: Eat this celebratory desert to get some health and shield back.
- Birthday Medallion: This year, Fortnite has decided to include a Birthday Medallion. You can use it to get a Balloon each time you jump. The best part is this medallion does not mark your location on the map.
As per usual, you can’t thank the bus driver; you can only wish him a happy birthday!

The birthday event in Fortnite usually doesn’t stray too far from adding new rewards from quests. This year, you can snag three cosmetic rewards if you manage to complete five Birthday Quests:
Quests
- Wish the bus driver a Happy Birthday (7)
- Throw Birthday Presents or open chests (7)
- Travel distance while airborne with balloons from Birthday Medallions (777)
- Eat slices of birthday cake (7)
- Release or pop balloons (7)
- Reveal players by setting off fireworks with the Flare Gun (7)
- Emote in different matches (7)
Rewards
- Birthday Bud Spray: Obtained by completing 1 quest
- Cake Clobberer Pickaxe: Obtained by completing 3 quests
- Sprinkly Space Cake Back Bling: Obtained by completing 5 quests
