Epic Games have finally announced a release date for Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2, confirming that patch 11.50 will be the start of a new journey for the game.
The game’s developers had previously stated that the debut season of the current chapter was set to end in February and have kept good on that promise by revealing a news announcement on January 24 confirming as much.
Following a period of uncertainty for the game’s community, after the usually accurate leaked HYPEX revealed that the length of Season 1 had been extended by a further two weeks, Epic Games have moved to ensure players that no more extensions will be taking place.
When Does Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 start?
In a news announcement posted to the official Fortnite website on January 25, the game’s development team confirmed that February 20 will indeed be the date that Season 2 starts in-game – meaning leaked information from HYPEX was correct.
Many expected that it would come to a close in early February, with dates as early as February 4 suggested by players, but thanks to the developers we now know that is officially not the case, and Fortnite fans will have to wait another few weeks for the new season update to drop.
It was announced back in November that the debut season would be the longest to-date and finally, the wait for information regarding the game’s next major update is over.

Fortnite moving to new engine
However, there was more than just a start date for the community to digest – as there was also a new game engine revealed and some words missing from the post.
An official statement said: “Beginning with the release of the 11.50 update in early February, Fortnite will be moving to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics engine. At launch, the goal is to ensure that Fortnite still feels like Fortnite. Along the way there will be some bumps, so we’re starting tests with a small group of players.”
What else can we expect in Fortnite’s v11.50 Update
While Epic Games have yet to announce what else will officially be coming in the next update, their community Trello is regularly updated with information, and we already know some of the fixes that are coming in the update.
Ziplines will return after being temporarily disabled when players discovered a number of exploits involving the transport method, including ways that players could teleport hundreds of feet into the air thanks to them. Elsewhere, fixes to building glitches are also coming, while the developers will also address a problem with the Rippley vs Sludge Overtime Mission that has been recording statistics properly, meaning players couldn’t earn rewards.
Fans can now look forward to seeing the 11.50 update released and will be hoping, unlike many patches of late, that there will be some patch notes to come with it.
Should there be any teasers about potential storylines or map changes for Season 2 revealed in the coming weeks, as we approach the next update, we’ll be the first to let you know.
