New analysis from Bloomberg suggests that Epic Games is now worth over $8.5 billion and Tim Sweeney, the company’s founder, is now a billionaire.
Fortnite Battle Royale might be free to play, but in-game purchases of various cosmetics, Battle Passes and V-Bucks have made it one of the most profitable games in history.
According to Bloomberg, Fortnite has been played by over 125 million people and is on track to generate around $2 billion this year.
For Sweeney, Fortnite has seen his company’s valuation skyrocket to around $8.5 billion, something that he could have never dreamed about when he created Epic Games in his parents’ basement in 1991.
Sweeney is still the majority shareholder at Epic and, according to Bloomberg, is now a billionaire in his own right. The article also suggests that the company would sell for around $14 billion if put on the market.

Available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Nintendo Switch, Fortnite is one of the most accessible games on the planet and the money that it is making is a reflection of that fact.
With no signs of Fortnite mania ending anytime soon, it is likely that we will see the net worth of both Epic Games and Tim Sweeney continue to rise exponentially by the end of 2018.
