A new announcement about the location and date for the Fortnite World Cup has seemingly revealed that the game’s tenth season will impact competitive play.
When is the Fortnite World Cup?
On April 8, Epic Games announced that the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center’s Arthur Ashe Stadium, in New York City, has been chosen to play host to the upcoming Fortnite World Cup on July 26-28.
However, in the announcement, Epic also let slip a few key details about Fortnite Season 10 before players have even had a chance to finish up with Season 8, which still has a number of weeks to run, or dive into the upcoming Season 9 – of which the theme and details are still up in the air.
What has Epic announced about Season 10?
In Epic’s announcement about tickets and the location, they revealed that all ticketed fans who attend the three-day World Cup event will receive some free V-Bucks in addition to the Season 10 Battle Pass. The exact amount is unknown, though.
Ticket holders must be in attendance to claim the free gifts – meaning that players can’t simply buy tickets linked to their main account, receive their rewards and watch the action unfold from the comfort of their own home. They have to make the trip to Flushing, New York.

When does Fortnite Season 10 start?
While the release dates for Season 10 or Season 9 are yet to be confirmed, it seems possible that the World Cup may fall between the changing of the season. If so, that could have major implications for the game’s meta – with new weapons, items, and possible vehicles being added.
While a number of pros have spoken out in the past about Epic making such significant changes during events, it seems as if their calls may have fallen on deaf ears – despite the developer’s previous promise to not have big changes overlap with tournament dates.
It remains to be seen if Epic respond to clear up any possible concerns about having their major event falling between a game-altering set of updates.
