After ten weeks of intense qualifiers, the $30m Fortnite World Cup has finally arrived – we take a look at five duos that could surprise everyone at the event.
Over 40 million players took place in the Fortnite World Cup online qualifiers, but only a select few made the cut for their chance to compete for a slice of the insane $30m prize pool.
After the Creative World Cup final kicked off the action, the duos tournament takes center stage on July 27 – all information on how to watch the event can be found here. We take a closer look at five dark horses who could take home the trophy.
1 – Cizlucky and Brush
Team: Tempo StormQualifying region: NA EastOdds: 80/1 (per bet365)
Tempo Storm duo Craig ‘Brush’ Hechmer and Chris ‘CizLucky’ Perez are well known in the competitive community thanks to their consistent placings during recent tournaments.
After placing fourth in the Scallywag Cup back in March, they secured their spot at the World Cup during week four of the qualifiers, narrowly missing out on first place in the stacked NA East region.
The pair have been teaming with Team Liquid’s Ryan ‘Chap’ Chaplo in recent trios events and the duo should place well if their usual chemistry shines through on the main stage.
2 – volx and Parpy
Teams: Free Agent/Chiefs Esports ClubQualifying region: Oceania Odds: 80/1 (per bet365)
Known as one of the top teams in the Oceania region, Abdullah ‘Parpy’ Khudeish and his duo partner ‘volx’ were dominant during the World Cup qualifiers, securing their place at the tournament with an extraordinary 1 place finish in week six.
The pair managed to secure Victory Royales in five of their eight matches, as well as averaging a remarkable 12.8 eliminations per game meaning they should be a force to reckoned with in New York.
If they manage to deal with the step up in competition, they have a great chance of winning some serious prize money.
3 – Nicks and pzfin
Team: Cloud9Qualifying region: South AmericaOdds: 50/1 (per bet365)
Following the overwhelming success of both these top Brazilian players, it was no surprise to see Cloud9 add Nicollas ‘Nicks’ Polonio de Oliveira and Pedro ‘pfzin’ Figueiredo Sé de Freitas to their competitive roster.

As a duo, they tore up the South American qualifiers, booking their ticket to the United States by winning both week two and week six tournaments. Their consistency means they should not be taken lightly, finishing no lower than 11 place in the qualifiers.
If they can handle the pressure of performing on the main stage, in a foreign country, they could be a surprise pick for the top spot.
4 – Vorwenn and Tuckz
Teams: FaZe Clan/AtlantisQualifying region: EuropeOdds: 80/1 (per bet365)
Representing Europe, FaZe Clan’s Tom ‘Vorwenn’ Baldrich will partner Team Atlantis’ Jordan ‘Tuckz’ Tucker in the hopes of winning big in New York City.
The newly formed duo were a surprise package during the week ten qualifiers, finishing fifth in the hotly contested EU region to guarantee themselves at least $50k in prize money. Despite their lack of time as partners, their impressive display means they could place well with a bit of luck.
However, with Tuckz revealing that he won’t be playing on his mouse of choice, the odds are stacked against them.
5 – Oslo and BadSniper
Team: Team VitalityQualifying region: EuropeOdds: 100/1 (per bet365)
Also hailing from EU, Team Vitality duo Phillippe ‘Oslo’ Carvalho and Zoubiri ‘BadSniper’ Naofel are looking to put France on the map despite being another relatively new duo.
They secured their qualification spot during the week eight tournament, finishing fifth with 83 points. Despite a poor performance in week ten, they have had plenty of time to practice together and work on their flaws.
Should they manage to pop off at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, they could be in with a shot at glory.
Any of the above mentioned teams will have to find a way to best tournament favorites such as new FaZe Clan recruit Kyle ‘Mongraal‘ Jackson and his duo partner Dmitri ‘Mitr0’ Van de Vrie to be in with a chance of cementing themselves in Fortnite history.
With just six games deciding who will emerge victorious, every team will know a great start would put them on the right path to lifting the trophy.
