One of the most exciting traversal features in Fortnite is the ability to tame wolves and other wild animals across the Island including boars and chickens.
Wild animals were added to Fortnite during Chapter 2: Season 6 and they’ve stuck around as a popular spawn ever since. Although raptors have now disappeared, you can still encounter wolves, boars, and chickens in Chapter 4: Season 1.
Some of these animals like chickens and frogs will simply go about their business, but the more vicious predators like wolves and boars will attack you as soon as they see you, adding a whole new threat to the popular battle royale game.
You can, however, tame some of these wild animals, and it’s actually pretty easy once you know how to do it. Below you’ll find instructions on taming animals in Fortnite, and where they’re located on the map.
How to tame wolves in Fortnite
The easiest way to tame a wolf in Fortnite is to simply jump on one of them. This is risky, though, as if you get the timing wrong you could end up taking some damage when it tries to take a bite out of you.
Here’s a safer (but slightly longer) method to tame a Wolf in Fortnite:
- Explore the wild areas of the Island until you find Wolves.
- Eliminate one of them to earn some ‘meat’ that you can pick up.
- Throw this meat down near a Wolf, then hide.
- Once a Wolf is distracted by the meat, you can approach it safely.
- Press and hold the command button to ‘tame’ the Wolf.
Wolves are the most exciting animal in Fortnite. They’re deadly, so will cause plenty of trouble for players. But if you can tame them, they’ll be a powerful ally when taking down your opponents.
Wolves will stay by your side until they’re eliminated, and they’ll attack anyone who gets in your way.
Where to find Wolves in Fortnite
Wolves seem to be the hardest wild animal to find at the moment, and it doesn’t seem as though they’re tied to a specific location on the Chapter 4 map right now. To find them, you’ll have to do some hunting.
They’ll appear in various wild locations around the Island, but we’ve had the best luck searching the grassy areas as opposed to the frozen biome at the northeastern corner of the map.
How to tame Boars in Fortnite
You can tame a boar in Fortnite by simply jumping onto its back. They’re not quite as aggressive as wolves, but they’ll still attack you if they feel threatened so you still need to be careful with this method.

Here’s a safer alternative method to tame a Boar in Fortnite:
- Pick up fruit or vegetables from a farm.
- Find a Boar in the wild areas of The Island.
- Throw the fruit or vegetables down near the Boar, but don’t let it see you.
- While the Boar is distracted, sneak up on it.
- Press and hold the command button to ‘tame’ the Boar.
Boars aren’t as fast and won’t do as much damage as Wolves, but you still need to keep your guard up as they can slowly whittle down your health if you’re not careful.
Where to find Boars in Fortnite
Boars seem to be a little easier to find than wolves across the Island. As well as roaming wooded areas, you can find them on farms. They also don’t hunt in packs like wolves so they’re easier to tame.
How to tame Chickens in Fortnite
Chickens work a little differently than Wolves and Boars. You won’t have to worry about them attacking you, and you also don’t tame them in a traditional sense. Instead, you can pick them up and fly!
Here’s how to tame a Chicken in Fortnite:
- Explore the wild areas of The Island to find a Chicken.
- Chase it down!
- Press the command button to ‘tame’ the Chicken.
- You’ll now be carrying the Chicken.
- Jump and you’ll fly.
Chickens are definitely the most fun animal in the game, although the chances of them helping you win seem quite slim.
Where to find Chickens in Fortnite
Chickens seem to be the most common wild animal on the Island, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding one. Search around farms and wooded areas for the best chance of bumping into them.
Listening out for sounds is vital here: While you might not see these small animals, you’ll certainly be able to hear nearby Chickens clucking. Make sure you’ve got Sound Effects turned up and your headphones on.
