Heal-offs have been a part of the competitive Fortnite meta since they were discovered, but the lengths pros have taken the strategy has forced Epic to patch the game.
In Patch 6.22, Epic changed the final storm damage from eight damage per second (DPS) to ten DPS.
That brought the storm damage back to its original setting, which still didn’t prevent heal-offs, but did weaken the strategies ability.
NRG Zayt popularized a strategy on Halloween that had one person carry medkits exclusively, and he won a game way before the final circle by using 12 medkits.
Now other pros have taken that strategy to a new level. Healing for over two minutes using 17 medkits and even storing bandages in case three full minutes of healing wasn’t enough.

With people not even needing to be in the final circle before they begin the heal-off, Epic needed to do something to change the system.

Their solution was to return the storm to ten DPS, but that still allows for heal-offs, it just requires the player to also use a cozy campfire in addition to the medkits.
While the damage change won’t solve the issue entirely, it will make it nearly impossible for players to pull off absurdly long endgame heal-offs like the one above.
