When every Fortnite season eventually ends, Epic Games deploys a scheduled downtime that sees the servers taken offline by the devs for a short time span. This was no different for the release of Season 4, in which Epic announced a scheduled downtime will take place as normal.

When does Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 downtime begin?
The downtime for Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 began on August 15, 2024, at around 11 PM EST.
Epic originally stated in-game that Season 3 was set to end at 2 AM ET on August 16, however, this was moved forward by three hours and the downtime started shortly after.

Epic announced that they expected the downtime to last around 5 hours, in which it did and there was no stated issues or delayes with the maintence downtime for the servers.
Previous seasons in Chapter 5 had run over their expected times. For example, Chapter 5 Season 2’s downtime ended up lasting around 10 hours in total, therefore this season’s was fairly quick.
When does Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 downtime end?
The downtime for Chapter 5 Season 4 of Fortnite for update update v31.00 ended on August 16 at 4:30 AM ET/ 1:30 AM PT.
Epic’s scheduled maintenance had no delays and finished within the timescale stated. With the downtime having fully ended, the servers have gone live and Fortnite’s Absolute Doom has officially started.
