One of the great things about gaming is that you can use it to trace your life through the years – we’ve all got games that we loved once upon a time, but the limitations of technology means we can’t play them anymore.
We often talk about these titles from our younger years and dream of a world where we get to experience them again, especially in a new, more advanced setting.
Whether it be Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo games, there are countless that we would love to be brought back into the current time, but here are our top ones.

Simpsons Hit & Run
Simpsons Hit & Run is considered somewhat of a classic to people of a certain age, bringing Springfield to the masses in one of the most beloved games of a generation.
Although it wasn’t a technical game that challenged the very best gamers to the highest degree or some kind of cinematic masterpiece, it was as fun as you would expect any Simpsons game to be, and had a fun leveling progression system that kept the game fresh with different challenges and characters to play.
Harry Potter series
For how successful the Harry Potter franchise was both in its literary and cinematic forms, it feels like fans were slightly neglected when it came to the games. Although the first few were quite enjoyable, it slowly became clear that the games weren’t getting the love they deserved.
This could be capitalized on with a still-rabid fanbase, by bringing back the wizarding games in a style fit for the 21st century and beyond, with proper care taken in giving the franchise a game (or games) it deserves.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
One of, if not the most beloved Call of Duty games in the series’ history, Modern Warfare 2 is yet to be brought back to the masses on next-gen consoles, despite its predecessor being remastered in 2016.
It’s shortly only a matter of time before Activision decides to remaster Modern Warfare 2 – the rumors have run rife for years – but it’s fair to say that millions of CoD players across the world would love to see this on next-gen consoles.
Super Mario World
Super Mario World might be one of the greatest platform games out there, which is astounding considering how far technology has come since it first released in 1990.
It set a great standard for what gamers could expect from a level-based platformer, with critics at the time praising its visuals and its replayability among other things. With so many levels, different worlds, secret endings and great boss battles, Super Mario World continues to be a title that is so easy to enjoy – so why not bring it back, better than ever?

Goldeneye 007
To many, Goldeneye is the FPS that kicked everything off. James Bond is an institution that transcends the literary form it originally took, becoming one of the biggest film franchises in the world, and clearly making for some good games too.
The single and multiplayer modes were both well-received, and the Golden Gun is a nostalgic weapon that FPS players still look back on with fondness. A Goldeneye remaster on next-gen consoles would certainly be enjoyed by fans, and would surely be a profitable endeavor for developers.
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl
The fact that Diamond and Pearl have not yet been remastered is considered somewhat of a travesty to Pokemon fans. The fourth-gen games are often cited among the greatest in the franchise, despite not having the nostalgic backdrop provided by the likes of the first and second-gen titles.
There’s no doubt Nintendo and the Pokemon Company will be remaking Diamond and Pearl for next-gen consoles at some point in the future – but it couldn’t come soon enough for fans.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was the pinnacle of skating games back in the day, a time before skating games were particularly popular.
It inspired a bunch of non-skaters to get on the board and, even if players didn’t take their skills to the real skatepark, it showed that there is a huge market for well-made skating titles. Pulling off ridiculous tricks to show off to your friends became the norm, and marketing it with one of the most famous skaters of all time made sure people were interested.
Luckily the game lived up to its namesake, and even in 2020 you still see people clamoring for a fun, new skating game to hit the market. With EA clearly not interested in creating Skate 4, is now the perfect time for a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remaster?
We could go on forever about which games should be remastered and brought back to the present day – but these titles just give a little something extra.
Over the years there have been countless games that faded into obscurity by no fault of its own, just the limitations set by advancing technology, but it’s a shame to have left so many great games to disappear.
So which games do you think Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo need to remaster?
