In order to do so, you just need to find the Magic Mirror in your camp. As soon as you interact with it, a customization UI will appear, allowing you to change any aspect you want.

The Magic Mirror is completely free, and players can use it as many times as they want, so now you have the freedom to experiment with all the looks you can imagine.

Because the camp changes according to your location, the magical artifact might switch places. Sometimes you’ll find it near the middle, while others, it can be on top of a hill, inside a room, or in the small fort in one of the corners.

It’s worth noting that this feature wasn’t available at launch. Larian Studios developed it and added it to the game after persistent community demand. So, if you’ve been playing pre-Patch 3, you might easily overlook it.

What can you change with the Magic Mirror?

When you access the Magic Mirror, you’ll be able to change:

  • Facial Structure
  • Voice
  • Identity
  • Body Art & Makeup
  • Hairstyle
  • Eye & Hair color

As the game indicates, Origin Characters, Hirelings, and Full Illithids can’t use the Magic Mirror. Further more, players are not allowed to change their race/subrace, nor their body type, or injuries that happen during the course of the story that leave cosmetic marks.

Other ways to change your appearance in Baldur’s Gate 3

There’s another way for players to alter their appearance, but it’s less permanent. For gamers who have purchased the Digital Deluxe Edition, they can claim the included Mask of the Shapeshifter.

The Mask of the Shapeshifter is found in the camp’s traveler’s chest and is free to use. By equipping it, you can use the level 1 spell, Shapeshift, which allows you to change into any race and gender of your choice — even gaining the benefits of those races.

Sadly, this change is not permanent and the spell can be broken in a variety of different ways.
