Cities Skylines 2 has finally arrived and there are several changes to the original that players need to understand before building their first settlement.
The first game measured progression almost entirely via the Milestone system. This has been altered and expanded this time around to include an extra mechanic called Development Trees. These two systems then combine to unlock features as players advance through the game.
In the sequel, XP is earned towards Milestones via growing the city, building city service buildings, roads and signature buildings, and controlling citizen happiness. In turn, this unlocks development points every time a new milestone is hit.
The Development Tree unlocks different construction options
Players are now able to spend the development points that they have earned in the Development Trees section. This section is further divided into different areas of city planning and management to allow for prioritization that can address specific issues or areas that allow further growth. Here’s a full breakdown of the developments on offer.
