CD Projekt Red have kept their cards firmly to their chest where Cyberpunk 2077 is concerned, but fans have set their sights on the E3 2019 trade fair as a place where they could finally reveal a release date, a closer look at gameplay, and more. So, let’s take a look at what we know so far…
The game studio has very much taken a patient and rather quiet to the development of their new flagship game, with very little being announced to the public in the process.
With the E3 trade fair very much around the corner, taking place between June 11-14, Red have already announced some details about their activity at the event and it looks like the long wait for more Cyberpunk 2077 information will soon be over.
Cyberpunk 2077’s E3 plans
CD Projekt Red confirmed that they would be at the annual E3 event back in February. Since then, some of the studio’s plans for their attendance have been announced as well.
Those who have been following news about Cyberpunk will also remember that we got to see a glimpse of gameplay at the E3 2018 event. In 2019, though, fans will be able to see more from the game, but there won’t be a playable demo available for players to try out. That, we know.
Red’s Global Community Lead Marcin Momot addressed one the biggest questions people had in the run-up to the event on May 23. “To answer many questions about the demo and whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 will be playable at E3, we are going to be hosting gameplay presentations (game played by us) in that cinema,” he tweeted.

The developer will be doing two showings, one in public and one behind closed doors this year, which fans will be looking forward to. When more information is revealed about their E3 schedule, we’ll be sure to update this article.
When will Cyberpunk 2077 be released?
The official release date of Cyberpunk 2077, revealed by Keanu Reeves who will also be a character in the game, is April 16, 2020.
CD Projekt Red had previously revealed, in an announcement on a Polish forum, that the launch of Cyberpunk will be accompanied by the release of another unnamed Triple-A RPG in the same year.
“As for the strategy of the CD Projekt Capital Group for the years 2016-2021, its plans for the release of the second AAA game until 2021 remain unchanged,” the post states. “We are currently focusing on the production and promotion of Cyberpunk, so we do not want to comment on further projects.”
Whether or not we will see both at E3 this year is unknown, but it certainly sounds like a possibility based on those suggestions.
Cyberpunk 2077 Standard Edition leaked
On June 7, an image showing what appears to be the standard edition of Cyberpunk 2077 was leaked online, presumably a promotion image for E3.
If the leak is accurate, the standard edition of the game is a very generous offering, with a map of Night City, a postcard, a ‘game knowledge booklet’, stickers, the soundtrack, art book and a wallpaper.
More Cyberpunk 2077 game information
So, now that we know to expect Cyberpunk 2077 in the near future, it is worth taking a look at what kind of game it will be…
Will there be a beta for Cyberpunk 2077?
Those hoping for a chance to get their hands on Cyberpunk 2077 before the release date will be disappointed. The team said there are no plans to have an open or closed beta of Cyberpunk 2077.
We have no plans for closed/open beta.

Saying there are no plans is slightly different than saying there will not be a beta, since plans could change as Cyberpunk 2077 gets closer to release. But, it is not looking likely for a Cyberpunk 2077 beta.
Will Cyberpunk 2077 be first-person?
In a drastic change for CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 will primarily be a first-person shooter. There will still be plenty of third-person action as well, notably in driving scenes, that should make fans of the Witcher series fell at home.
There’s already a 48 minute demo of uncut Cyberpunk 2077, which shows a variety of gameplay mechanics – all of which are subject to change.

Will Cyberpunk 2077 have a battle royale mode?
According to Red, the multiplayer portion of Cyberpunk 2077 will not be a battle royale. The developer left no doubts when responding to a fan who asked if battle royale will be a part of the game, responding with a humorous “no” GIF.

Can you create your character in Cyberpunk 2077?
Yes, there will be an extensive character creator in Cyberpunk 2077 that will let you fine tune the look of your character. Also of interest is the ability to customize your character’s background, which will lead to different narrative paths later in the game.
What timeline is Cyberpunk 2077 part of?
There has been a lot of speculation which suggests that Cyberpunk 2077 will be on a completely different timeline to that of its predecessor, Cyberpunk 2020 – as reported by SegmentNext.
However, that interview – which was said to be from Cyberpunk game designer Mike Pondsmith – has been completely debunked. Cyberpunk 2077 will be on the same timeline as the other titles and he confirmed that himself by posting to Reddit on May 1.
“There’s still an incorrect interview floating around the interwebs that states that Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk 2020 are separate timelines,” Pondsmith posted. “The timeline is unified, with the path moving from Cyberpunk 2013 thru Cyberpunk 2020, then through Cyberpunk Red and up to Cyberpunk 2077.”
Cyberpunk 2077 missions more ‘complex’ than The Witcher
The quest director working on Cyberpunk 2077, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, has revealed that the missions involved in this game will be a little more complex than that of The Witcher, for a number of reasons.
“There are many ways to complete missions based on how you’ve created your character,” the director said during an interview with AreaJugones. “I think this is something that makes our game different from The Witcher.
“Because in The Witcher we had a basic loop in the gameplay, finding non-linearity in the missions section. This time, the gameplay will also have a non-linear character. I think this is where the big difference lies in terms of the complexity of our missions.”
Cyberpunk players will also be given the benefit of the doubt when trying out the “stupidest” things in missions, according to Quest Designer Philipp Weber.
Weber took part in a podcast with GameStar and during the interview he explained that one of the advantages of the new game is that game over screens won’t appear if you lose track of a target – as is the case in other games. Instead, game over screens will only pop up if your player dies in-game.
How big is the map in Cyberpunk 2077?
We already have some interesting details about the map in Cyberpunk 2077, which will, unsurprisingly, be “huge”.
There are a total of six districts in Night City, but how large they are isn’t an exact science. Because there is a lot verticality, the map will be both wide and tall – so precise square meters of space is difficult to tell.
Cyberpunk 2077’s official Facebook page gave this response when asked about map size compared to the Witcher 3.
