Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, but does it support crossplay to allow you to play with friends?
Baldur’s Gate 3 revolves around party mechanics with a multiplayer feature to play with your friends. Before you dive into your group adventure in The Forgotten Realms however, it’s important to keep cross-platform play in mind especially if you’re all on different devices.
Crossplay is coming to BG3 in the future
On a July 16, 2024, Blog Post ahead of the Patch 7 release, Larian revealed that there was more to come for BG3 in the future including crossplay. The statement read:
“Patch 7 won’t be the final update for Baldur’s Gate 3. We still have a few things up our sleeve – including many community-requested features like crossplay and a photo mode to capture and share your unforgettable moments. And we’re working on a host of other enhancements, from gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life improvements to bug fixes and performance optimizations.”
Prior to this, Head of Publishing, Michael Douse, said they’ve been planning to add crossplay since the game’s early development: “It’s in the roadmap, and though we have an idea of when we’d like to get it ready, we don’t want to put a date on it until we’re sure,” he said.
It’s worth noting that if you’re on PC and playing either on Windows or on Mac, it seems like you’ll be able to play with each other irrespective of whether you are using GoG or Steam.
Cross-progression
Although crossplay isn’t available yet, Baldur’s Gate 3 does have cross progression with the cross-save option.

It’s important to note that cross-save doesn’t seem to appear on PC unless you’re using a controller, so we’d advise connecting one first.
We’d also recommend setting up a Larian account beforehand to save time as you’ll need one for the option to appear in the main menu.
To enable cross-save between PC and console, follow the steps below:
- Launch BG3 on PC
- Create or log in to your Larian account
- Once you’re in the game, open the options menu by pressing the ESC key
- Navigate to the cross-save option under the Gameplay tab
- You can toggle the option on and off from here
- Once you’ve done this and the changes have synced, launch the game on console and enable cross-save via the main menu
- Restart BG3 and a ‘Continue‘ option should be available that contains your existing PC save.
If you’d rather transfer your console save to PC, just follow the steps above starting on console first.
