Is E3 2022 canceled?
While nothing has been official from the ESA, multiple people have taken to Twitter on March 31, claiming they received an email that E3 in its entirety has been canceled.
This matches up well with notable journalist and industry insider Jeff Grubb, who believed the online event is canceled had already been scrapped.
In a January 16 TikTok, Grubb stated, “E3’s been canceled. Well, physically it’s been canceled. Digitally…probably also canceled.” He goes on to state that GameBeat doesn’t know much about the video game show circuit this summer, and that maybe there could be a virtual E3.
Until ESA makes an official announcement, the future of E3 2022 remains unclear. However, with recent rumors of the event being fully digital, fans should go on the expectation that the event will go on as planned. E3’s official site does suggest news is coming in 2022.
Do we know anything about E3 2022’s schedule?
If we follow previous years, then we can expect E3 2022 to run between the week of June 14.

Obviously, things are a bit more up in the air than in previous years. No dates or events have been confirmed at the time of writing and while details are minimal at this time, we will make sure to update you as more information is revealed to the public.
Will E3 2022 be digital-only or in-person?
For the second year in a row, Entertainment Software Association announced that the prestigious gaming event would not be held in person. This means that fans will not be able to attend E3 2022 like a convention, and, as we’ve said, plans to hold a virtual event have not been announced.
In a statement sent to IGN, the ESA said that this was not an easy decision but feels it is for the benefit of everyone.
“Due to the ongoing health risks…its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022. We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.” Well, more details have arrived and it might not be what fans were hoping for.

On March 10, video game insider Tom Henderson reported that the event will be “entirely digital.” This comes off the back of emails that were reportedly sent out to developers.
E3 will be an entirely digital event again this year according to the ESRB who sent out emails to developers today.

Henderson also believes that this means that E3 2022 will not be canceled, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Who will be at E3 this year? PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo
If E3 2022 does go ahead, then we’d expect to see a litany of the industry’s biggest companies attend in some form or another.
In recent years, Sony have opted out of E3 to concentrate on holding their own PlayStation Experience events and regular State of Play specials.
Microsoft and Nintendo have held events adjacent to E3, too, and we’d be very surprised to see neither of them do something in June.
