Island Sanctuary update
After revealing the various changes in the FFXIV Live Letter from the Producer, Yoshi P showed us some new gameplay footage from the Island Sanctuary. The footage began at the top of a mountain which really got across how ambitious in scale the Buried Memory update will be.
The expansion will feature an optional tutorial that will help players get to grips with Island life. Players will also be able to sprint faster and for longer when in the Island Sanctuary to make the game as stress-free as possible.
Yoshi P revealed that the tutorial will take roughly two hours to complete, but he also said you’ll be able to hang out in the Island Sanctuary while you’re queuing to access other FFXIV content like Raids or servers.
The Island will also feature NPCs with humorous names to help guide players navigate the various features such as the inventory changes. This will be different than the standard FFXIV inventory. You can also fast-travel back to these NPCs whenever you’re in need of guidance.
We got real Animal Crossing vibes from Island Sanctuary, which is exactly what the devs are going for. Crafting, building, and generally having a relaxing and creative experience is the goal here. Island Sanctuary is where Heros of Light go to unwind – and engage in DIY.
Island Sanctuary will be a single-player experience, but up to 15 other players can come and visit you, all at the same time if you’d like. Finally, Yoshi P told us they will be releasing a manual to cover how Island life works in more detail.
Here are some of the activities you can engage in when Island Sanctuary goes live:
- Farming and growing crops
- Capturing and rearing farm animals
- Placing your minions around the Island – you can add up to 40
- Building and exploring
Yoshi revealed that the FFXIV devs will aim to add fresh Island Sanctuary content every two patches, so expect it to be supported for a long time to come.
