Valve’s not-so-secret hero shooter MOBA, Deadlock, has been in its playtest phase for months already, and while there was plenty of momentum in the opening months, things have since slowed down.
Deadlock is an action-packed title full of unique characters to use, Unsecured Souls to collect, and objectives to master. It may still be in early access but that hasn’t stopped it from amassing a big fanbase already.
If you’re curious as to just how many people are playing in 2025, we’ve got you covered below.
How many people play Deadlock?
According to SteamDB, Deadlock has had a peak of 23,536 players in the last 30 days. This is a considerable drop from December 2024’s peak of 38,058 players and a massive decline from the all-time peak of 171,490 players back in September 2024.
We’ve provided an in-depth look at Deadlock’s peak monthly player count at the tail end of 2024 via the graph below:
It’s also important to note that while Deadlock’s existence has been made public by Valve, and thousands are playing daily, access is still limited to those who can get an invite. You can add friends to the test, however, so the amount of player access has grown though it will see a bigger spike whenever it fully launches.
Player count compared to competitors
Deadlock has been extremely popular since its launch, though with its recent decline, it’s been struggling against the likes of Overwatch 2, Destiny 2, and Apex Legends to name a few.

It’s worth noting Deadlock has been in a bit of a lull of late, while other live-service games have continued to release sizeable updates every so often. In the case of Valve’s hero-shooter-MOBA hybrid, it’s been a quiet affair to start the new year, with no major content drops, roster updates, or key gameplay additions to draw players back.
For now, there’s no quite telling when Valve may put its foot on the gas once again, but there’s no doubt they’re cooking up plenty of exciting changes for later in the year.
For a more in-depth look at how it’s doing compared to other live service games, we’ve provided a custom graph below:
Deadlock is exclusive to Steam so the current numbers on SteamDB are accurate to how many are playing. However, plugging a controller in brings up a fully integrated UI and controller bindings, making a console port more likely than you’d think.
That’s what we know about Deadlock’s player count. If you’re just jumping in, check out our best builds for Vindicta, Infernus, Pocket, Shiv, and Dynamo.
