Call of Duty has one of the largest and most consistent player bases year after year, but with Warzone serving as its own standalone Battle Royale experience, just how many are dropping in?
The original Warzone was a huge success for Activision, changing the face of the CoD franchise forever. After Warzone landed, nothing dominated the online gaming space more, and the game reached its peak popularity, prompting a sequel shortly after.
Warzone 2 – later rebranded back to just Warzone – was a highly anticipated overhaul to the original, with many looking forward to its best weapons and new maps, though not everything went to plan. Many boycotted the new maps and fundamental changes over the years, leaving Warzone in a spot of bother entering the Black Ops 6 era.
With that in mind, here’s the Warzone player count as of January 2025, and notably, the game’s player count now that Black Ops 6 is well and truly in focus.
Call of Duty Warzone player count on PC
As of January 1, 2025, the average number of players in the last 30 days on Steam for Call of Duty is 91,342. This is quite a dip compared to the previous 30-day stretch, as an average of 165,668 players jumped in on Steam.
It’s worth bearing in mind just what this data reflects. As Call of Duty now bundles all of its offerings into a single launcher, the figures above account for Warzone along with Black Ops 6’s campaign, Zombies, and multiplayer modes. Unfortunately, there’s no way to discern player counts for individual components.
The peak player count for the Call of Duty launcher on Steam came in October 2022 as 488,897 players hopped on at the same time. This was triggered by the launch of Modern Warfare 2.
A decline is always expected after the launch month of any given CoD, and that’s the case here with Black Ops 6 attracting a much higher average, and thus many more players for Warzone, than in earlier months.
Tens of thousands returned for the highly anticipated Season 1 update in Black Ops 6, which marked the integration of the new game into Warzone, bringing a whole new arsenal of weapons along with features like Omnimovement.

Currently, Warzone is in the midst of arguably its biggest struggle. The cheating crisis is raging on and it’s driving even the most loyal players away in droves.
Many popular streamers have abandoned CoD as a whole, meaning Warzone included, as developers have fallen short of addressing the ongoing hacker issue.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that data here is pulled from Steam alone. There’s no telling how many others are joining the fun across Xbox, PlayStation, Game Pass, and even Battle.net.
So, bear in mind that while these numbers are for Steam players only, they will give our best indication possible of how many people are playing Warzone.
Player count compared to competitors
Compared to other games in the category, CoD, and Warzone specifically, is still a juggernaut, though it has been knocked down a few pegs of late.
Warzone narrowly tops the likes of Apex Legends, but falls massively short of titles like PUBG, which recorded an average of 319,031 players on Steam over the past 30 days.
Meanwhile, CoD as a whole still stands clear of other shooters like Rainbow Six: Siege and Overwatch 2, with both game’s Steam averages combined not touching CoD’s average player count.
That’s all there is to know about Warzone’s player count. You can also check out the active player count of Valorant, Apex Legends, and World of Warcraft.
