How to beat Elmenta in Metaphor: ReFantazio

Some of the bosses in Metaphor: ReFantazio are tough, but none are quite as rage-inducing as the Elmenta – the enemy that straight-up runs away from you.

It’s all well and good having the best Archetype to exploit an enemy’s weakness but if they run away before you can attack it’s no use. Blue, Red, Green, and Golden Elmenta don’t want to give you the time of day in Metaphor: ReFantazio so it’s important to act fast around them.

We’ve got a full breakdown of all Elmenta weaknesses below, and some essential tips for beating them.

Blue Elmenta weakness

  • Weakness: Fire skills
  • Location: Grand Trad outskirts or Catacombs

Blue Elmenta is weak to Fire skills, such as Bot, Gabot, Botra, Gabotra, Boatona, and Meteophor.

The Mage, Wizard, and Magic Seeker Archetypes usually have access to these abilities, so we’d advise having at least one party member with one of these Archetypes before you head into battle.

When it comes to Blue Elmenta we’d also advise saving up to buy the Phantasma Doll from Gloamhall in Grand Trad. At 49,000 Reeve it’s certainly expensive but it’s well worth the investment.

The doll lets the wearer have two consecutive turns in battle so you can easily take a Blue Elmenta down with multiple Fire abilities this way.

You can find these enemies on the outskirts of Grand Trad or in the Catacombs.

Red Elmenta weakness

  • Weakness: Ice skills
  • Location: Martira outskirts or underneath the castle

The Red Elmenta is weak to Ice skills, such as Blizz, Gablizz, Blizza, Gablizza, and Blizzaton.

The Mage and Wizard Archetypes typically have access to them. If you don’t have any of these skills, an item like Ice Chunk will do, or you can stick to strong Physical damage attacks.

Green Elmenta weakness

  • Weakness: Electric skills
  • Location: Oceana or on the road during Inclement weather

The Green Elmenta is weak to Electric skills, such as Kande, Gakande, Kandera, Gakandera, and Kandeon.

While the Mage and Wizard have access to these, the Magic Knight unlocks the Magic Knight’s Hammer, which also deals Electric damage.

You can find Green Elmenta in Oceania and while on the road, as long as there’s Inclement weather.

The Golden Elmenta is weak to Wind skills, such as Cyc, Gacyc, Cyclo, Gacyclo, Cyclone, and Gacyclone. The Seeker and Magic Seeker can both access these abilities.

How to defeat Elmenta enemies

You must beat Elmenta enemies in a single turn or they will run away in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

  1. When you spot an Elmenta, don’t waste any time – chase it down and smack it with your primary weapon before starting Squad combat. This gives you a nice advantage in the fight, letting you land a free hit without burning a turn.
  2. Follow up by exploiting the it’s weakness, which is conveniently tied to its color. Use either your Archetype’s magic or items to hit that weakness and make quick work of them.
  3. Alternatively, you could use a strong physical attack hoping to deal a critical blow and earn one extra turn.

Once you take down the Elmenta, you’re instantly whisked to the rewards screen. The payoff is a massive boost in MAG, Reeve, and EXP.

Chances are, several of your characters and Archetypes will level up just from that one fight. And since the Elmenta never gets a chance to touch you, you also score an Unscathed Victory bonus.
