The Drunken Boar is an NPC in Black Myth: Wukong, and you must finish it to get access to the Wind Tamer, an item that makes the Yellow Wind Sage boss fight very easy.
Black Myth: Wukong is quite sneaky with its side quests. The NPCs are scattered in secluded areas, and they offer some valuable items that offer lore or help with boss fights.
One such NPC is the Drunken Boar you come across in Yellow Wind Ridge. If you’ve been struggling with the Yellow Wind Sage boss fight, you must complete the Drunken Boar NPC quest, as it gives access to the Wind Tamer, which can change your battle for the better.
How to complete the Drunken Boar quest and get the Wind Tamer
Before getting into the details, here’s a quick rundown of how to finish the Drunken Boar quest:
- Make your way to Rockrest Flat Shrine
- Interact with the Drunken Boar
- Collect the Arhat Gold Piece
- Collect a Sobering Stone
- Report back to the Drunken Boar
- Meet the Drunken Boar in Crouching Tiger Temple
- Fight the Yellow-Robed Squire
- Make your way to the Kingdom of Sahali
- Fight against Fuban
With the steps listed out, it’s time to dive into them in detail and guide you to the Wind Tamer.
Step 1: Reach Rockrest Flat Shrine
This Shrine can be found near the Stone Vanguard boss fight in Black Myth: Wukong. You can also reach it after defeating the Flowing Sands Prince in the opening area and then taking a right through a wooden bridge.
Irrespective of the path you take, you will eventually reach this Shrine, as it’s an important section of the Yellow Wind Ridge.
Step 2: Meet the Drunken Boar
- From the Rockrest Flat Shrine, move to the other end of the rocks
- Here you’ll notice an enemy with a shield guarding a wooden barricade
- Defeat the enemy, break the barricade, and move in
- You will end up in a massive open field with rocks in the middle.
This is where you’ll come across a Drunken Boar who will ask you to find something to help him sober up.
Step 3: Get the Arhat Gold Piece
This item is required as part of the quest, and you get it by defeating one of the main bosses of the region, the First Prince of the Flowing Sands.
This boss is pretty simple, as all it does is charge at you. Simply side-dodge to avoid its charge attacks and you’ll be fine. Defeating the boss will drop the Arhat Gold Piece.
Step 4: Get a Sobering Stone
You’ll ned a Sobering Stone to sober up the Drunken Boar. To get this item, teleport to Crouching Tiger Temple. You need to defeat the Tiger Vanguard if you haven’t already. This is a pretty hard boss fight, so get ready for a challenge.
- After defeating it, run straight until you reach Windrest Bridge Shrine.
- From here, run straight to the end of the bridge
- Take a left, then a right, and then a left again.
- You will find the Sobering Stone by breaking two small jars, as shown in the image above.
Step 5: Return to the Drunken Boar
After you have the Sobering Stone, go back to the Drunken Boar and deliver the item. The Boar will now stand up and ask for some meat from the Crouching Tiger Temple. Just to be clear, there is no meat, so don’t waste your time searching for it.
Instead just teleport to the Crouching Tiger Temple and follow the steps mentioned below.
Step 6: Talk to the Drunken Boar in Crouching Tiger Temple
After you teleport to Crouching Tiger Temple, go up the stairs and take the second right. You will find the Drunken Boar sitting here.
Talk to it, and the Boar will demand a Jade Lotus from you. You can purchase this item from any Shrine Shop for 90 Will. Give it to the Boar, exhaust its dialogue, and return to the original location where you initially found the Drunken Boar.

Step 7: Defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire
When you return to the open field, take a right, and you will see an angry Drunken Boar upset that you have access to the Arhat Gold Piece.
A fight will start, and you will have to defeat the Yellow-Robed Squire. Thankfully, this fight is easy enough, and you shouldn’t have any issues. After defeating it, the Boar will surrender and move inside the door right behind it.
Step 8: Reach the Kingdom of Sahali
Once you enter the door, the Kingdom of Sahali will open up. The Drunken Boar will tell you a story, and you will find yourself in front of a new Shrine. If you walk up from here, another Tiger Vanguard will be waiting for you.
Defeat this one, though it’s a lot easier than the one at Crouching Tiger Temple. After defeating it, proceed forward and talk to the Yellow Wind Sage NPC.
Step 9: Defeat Fuban
After talking to the Yellow Wind Sage, it will spawn a massive beetle called Fuban in the middle of a desert arena. This boss isn’t too hard either, and you will also have some help from the Yellow Wind Sage.
Once the boss is defeated, you’ll be teleported back outside of the initial gate from where you entered, and will have the Wind Tamer in your possession.
You can now use the Wind Tamer to defeat the Yellow Wind Sage boss version that you might have been struggling with up until now.
What does the Wind Tamer do?
The Wind Tamer simply suppresses Wind Attacks in Black Myth: Wukong. When you fight the Yellow Wind Sage, it will start using a lot of Wind attacks which are quite aggressive and hard to deal with.
It cannot be spammed, as it has a meter bar that gets filled up as you fight or after resting at a Shrine. You can see the meter bar right next to the Spirit meter on the bottom right side of your screen.
How to use the Wind Tamer
If you are playing on default settings, the Wind Tamer can be activated by pressing T on your keyboard or by pushing R2 and the left stick upwards on your PlayStation 5 controller to activate it. As soon as you see the Yellow Wind Sage using its big Wind Attacks, activate the Wind Tamer, and the boss will curse you, but lose all its teeth.
The effect is instantaneous as well, which means there won’t be any delay between activation and the boss getting subdued. Just remember it’s temporary, so deal as much damage as possible to charge up the Wind Tamer again. However, as long as you don’t mess up your timings, you won’t need a second charge.
