The First Descendant offers a new cooperative, looter shooter experience that allows you to party up with three friends, though it may be a little tricky to figure that out at first.
One of The First Descendant’s most advertised features is its multiplayer and crossplay capabilities. Before you can start choosing characters, perfecting builds, and adding weapons to your loadout, you’ll need to join your friends first.
With that in mind, here’s how to set up co-op in The First Descendant and join your friends.
How to play co-op with friends
To play The First Descendant in co-op, simply follow the steps below:
- Make sure you’ve got your friend’s game ID on hand.
- Open the in-game map by using the M key on PC, View on Xbox, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.
- Navigate to the Social tab on the right-hand side of the screen.
- From this tab, you can add another player by typing their game ID in. Your game ID is your gamertag (or name depending on the platform you’re using) and the four-number combination that comes after it.
Once you are friends with another The First Descendant player, you can find them in the Friends section of the Social Menu and invite them to the party. Doing so will send them a notification that they simply have to accept, and they will be brought into your game.

You can also approach any player you encounter in the game world and use the button prompt to invite them to your party. These players will also appear in the Social Menu under your name, where you can select them.
Either way, a menu will pop up, allowing you to send them a request and invite them to your party.
Now that you’ve got your group together, it’s time to explore everything else The First Descendant has to offer like all the characters, ranking up your Mastery level, and how to open Encrypted Vault. Make sure to keep an eye on the game’s server status as well to avoid any disappointment if they’re suddenly down.
