Nightingale released into Early Access on February 20 and it seems to have a lot going for it. That said, there are some issues that need overcoming quickly. One of those is inventory management and item stacks more generally.
For those who are yet to stumble across its charms, Nightingale puts forward an interesting case. It’s set in an alternative 19th-century Earth, where a mysterious force brings the planet to the brink of extinction.
Saved by a mysterious figure known as Puck, players must travel between realms to survive and thrive. These realms are accessed via portals and can be customized by inserting cards into the machine. These cards alter the realm the player travels to and serve as the major differentiating factor between this and other games.
With so much to collect and uncover, the player inventory can fill up quickly. As such, splitting stacks becomes an appealing prospect quickly, but it’s not easy to work out how. Here’s everything you need to know to do so.
Splitting stacks in Nightingale needs changes
At the time of writing, it’s not possible to split stacks directly in the inventory. This is a possible oversight on the part of the developer, but it is possible to split stacks in a more roundabout way.

The first step is building some kind of container. The earliest unlock that works well is the Angling Basket, which becomes available after the tutorial and can be built for 10 Plant Fiber. After that has been assembled, click on it to open its separate inventory.
This should open alongside the player inventory. From there, shift-click the item you want to split and drag it to the basket. This should bring up a slider, allowing you to deposit a certain amount in the basket and keeping the rest in the player’s possession.
Although it’s not ideal, it is currently the only way of splitting stacks in Nightingale. Additionally, it is a big help with carry weight in the meantime. There is likely to be an update to this system as the game progresses and this guide will be updated to reflect that.
