The perfect companion to Jurassic World Dominion

Unlike previous Jurassic World Evolution 2 DLC packs – Early Cretaceous and Camp Cretaceous – which only added a handful of new dinosaurs and skins for existing species, the new Dominion Biosyn Expansion feels like the first must-have piece of DLC content for this game.

The biggest new feature is the Dominion Campaign Mode, which tasks you with creating Biosyn Valley from the ground up. For anyone who’s watched the latest Jurassic World movie, this acts as a nice prequel that fleshes out the story of how Biosyn gained such a huge presence in the dinosaur business.

There’s enough fresh content to avoid this feeling like a repeat of previous campaigns, like mining amber to discover hidden dinosaur DNA and a Hyper Loop system that links your buildings. There are even invisible fences added to keep your ferocious creatures at bay.

Fans of the movies will be pleased to see familiar faces like Lewis Dodgson and Ramsay Cole, who guide you through Biosyn’s journey to power. They’re voiced by the same actors that appear in the movies, which is a nice touch that makes it feel like a legitimate part of the Jurassic World story.

Alongside this Campaign Mode is a brand new Chaos Theory level that follows Owen Grady as he looks after dinosaurs in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Whether you’re herding Parasaurolophus with the new dinosaur-wrangling mechanic or fending off poachers, it’s another great addition to the game.

Feathered friends have finally arrived

If you’re just here for the new dinosaurs, then you’ll be glad to know that the Dominion Biosyn Expansion has got you covered with four brand new species, as well as several skins and variants that encourage you to revisit existing dinosaurs.

The main attractions are the two feathered beasts: the Pyroraptor and the Therizinosaurus. These dangerous dinosaurs both caused chaos on the big screen in Jurassic World Dominion, so being able to bring them into your own parks is a brilliant addition.

Joining them is the carnivorous Dimetrodon – described as the oldest prehistoric species in the game – and a large flying animal known as the Quetzalcoatlus. There are also six new skins and two variants, including a feathered Tyrannosaurus Rex and a 2022 version of the Giganotosaurus that’s extra scary.

Ultimately, there’s plenty of content to enjoy here, with both the Dominion Campaign Mode and Chaos Theory level making it feel worth the money. It’s not essential by any means, but if you’ve seen all there is to see in the Jurassic World Evolution 2 and you’re craving more, then we’d definitely recommend it.

Verdict – 8/10

The Dominion Biosyn Expansion is a chunky slice of DLC that will appeal to all dinosaur fans – but particularly those who have watched (and enjoyed) Jurassic World Dominion at the cinemas. If you loved the base game, there’s no reason you won’t love this too.
