One of the most beloved Star Wars titles of the 2000s, Knights of the Old Republic, has had a remake in and out of development on PS5. Here’s everything we know so far, from whether it’ll release on other platforms to the announcement trailer.
Sony’s PlayStation showcase back in September 2021 lifted the lid on a number of huge announcements, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. One of the first major announcements that were made during the show was a long-awaited remake that fans have been asking for over the last several years.
However, since its announcement, the game has gone quiet and other clues may point to it being canceled. Or it could have entered development purgatory. Here’s everything we know about The Knights of The Old Republic remake for the PlayStation 5 and PC – and if it will ever see the light of day.
Is there a Knights of The Old Republic PS5 Remake release date?
No. While the game was initially in development with Aspyr, it has since been taken over by Saber Interactive. This change in developer is likely to set the release of the game back quite a bit. As well as this, recent Bloomberg reports have also indicated that fans may have to wait till 2025 to get their hands on the KOTOR remake.
According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, the KotOR remake is dead and currently has no developer. On his Game Mess Mornings show, Grubb said:
“I just want to clear it up, this game is not being worked on right now. Just full stop. This game is not being worked on in any way, at any studio.”
If Grubb is correct, then this would mean that the game is canceled, or is on indefinite hold while a new developer is sought.

Will Knights of The Old Republic be available on other platforms?
The Knights of the Old Republic remake will be PS5 and PC exclusive at launch, if the launch happens, which at the time of writing is doubtful.
While we don’t know if or when it’ll come to platforms such as the Xbox Series S|X, many rumors have been circulating that suggest the game will eventually end on Xbox.
Given that the original was an Xbox exclusive when it launched it would be odd to see the remake not arrive on the console at some point after its initial launch, should that ever happen.
So, there you have it – that’s everything we know about the Knights of The Old Republic remake so far.
