Wilds of Eldraine Episode 1 Recap – Pure of Heart
Death has come to Eldraine. In the wake of the multiversal Phyrexian invasion, the Kenrith royal family is in mourning. The king and queen fell in the assault on the plane, and now their children, Will and Rowan, pick up the pieces in their stead.
Wilds of Eldraine’s story will partially focus on the differing views these two twins have on ruling the land.
The Kenrith siblings travel to meet with the rebel leader, Imodaine. Imodaine, along with her band of soldiers, has been running a protection racket on Eldraine’s village folk. Upon their meeting, Imodaine brands Will a coward. Rowan struggles to remain calm as Will offers Imodaine a chance to duel for the throne of Eldraine.
Imodaine quickly has Will on the back foot, and Rowan’s tumult of emotion – bottled up since the invasion – spills forth in a burst of lightning. The power is unlike anything Rowan has ever displayed before, splitting a nearby mountain. The soldiers – and Will – look at her in fear and awe, and Imodaine drops her weapon, fleeing the battlefield.
Imodaine – once an honorable knight – hurries through the forest and finds herself in a strange throneroom, summoned by a Fae lord.
WOE’s story will test the Kenrith twins
Will has abandoned the Kenriths’ castle and taken up refuge in Castle Vantress. Rowan notices the weight of her brothers’ responsibilities weighing on him. The siblings argue over their differing views on ruling the realm and how to combat the Wicked Slumber.
Rowan attempts to Planeswalk, intending to travel elsewhere for aid and knowledge to combat the slumber, but cannot. She realizes that she has been desparked.
Kellan makes his debut in MTG Wilds of Eldraine
In a small, isolated village, spared from the Phyrexian onslaught, the half-Fae boy Kellan returns home injured. His small-minded bullies blame his fae nature for the Wicked Slumber – a plague of sleep affecting many of the plane’s inhabitants. Initially deployed as a defense against the Phyrexians, the Slumber has remained in the invaders’ wake.
Kellan moves through the night, racing ahead of his mother. He sees a ghostly stone archway, inviting him into a High Faerie’s presence. Stepping through, he finds himself in a majestic otherworld.
Kellan relies on the wisdom of stories to keep him safe in the Fae’s court. Seeking answers, Kellan agrees to a bargain with the Fae lord, Talion. In return for answers to his parentage, Kellan will seek out and defeat three witches; Agatha the Hungry, Cruel Hylda, and the Beguilling Eriette. Doing so will supposedly break the curse that holds the realm in sway. But the Fae have their secrets and never tell the whole of what they mean.
Wilds of Eldraine Episode 2 Recap – Wandering Knight, Budding Hero
Rowan enters the wilds, searching for any possible leads on a cure for the Slumber. She gains directions to a nearby castle from Royce, a glamour-concealed spider.
Entering the castle, Rowan slays undead servants. Finding a bed and exhausted by rage, she falls asleep and enters a dream replica of the castle. Within the dream, visions of Rowan’s parents invite her to castle Ardenvale, to heed the call of her blood.
Kellan meets Ruby, a fellow adventurous youth
Kellan has begun his search for the three witches. Initially delighted by the sights of wider Eldraine, Kellan sees a man afflicted by the Slumber. A girl wearing a red cloak – Ruby – stops him before he can touch the sleeper, unsure of how the plague transmits.
Ruby points Kellan towards Dunbarrow, mentioning her missing brother, Peter, as she does. Kellan invites Ruby along as a guide in order to help find her brother and the girl agrees. The two cross the wilds, and Kellan sees the remaining bodies of Phyrexians for the first time, learning of the existence of other planes.
As Ruby drives off a mischievous pixie, the two are beset by arrows from an assailant in wolf-styled armor. They flee the menacing knight, as Kellan is unable to properly wield the strange weapon hilts granted by Talion. The two bait a pack of Witchstalker wolves into chasing the knight away, and they find themselves standing before a small wooden cabin; the witch’s abode.
Peeking into the cabin, Kellan spots a pacing witch and a trussed-up knight with a wooden arm, Imodaine. As the wolf knight returns to menace Ruby, Kellan decides to attempt to rescue Imodaine, hoping she’ll help drive away their assailant.
Before the witch can finish her preparations to cook Imodaine, Kellan charges and knocks her into her own cauldron. As Imodaine struggles to stand, the wolf knight enters and removes his helm, revealing himself to be Peter. Ruby’s brother had been a victim of some terrible, enchanting song while out hunting, but has seemingly come back to his senses.
Leaving the cabin, the group finds themselves in Talion’s court. The lord tells Kellen that the stolen mirror Indrelon is the key to tracking down the next witch, Hylda. Kellen and Ruby are pointed toward a beanstalk, and they decide to rest for the night before pressing on with their quest.
Wilds of Eldraine Episode 3 Recap – Two Great Banquets
Will writes a letter to Rowan, expressing his concern for her and desire for reconciliation. Rowan reads the delivered message in a tavern and sends a response – that Will should come and find her if he’s serious.
Rowan ventures to Castle Ardenvale, a ruin now full of Phyrexian corpses and the swirl of the Slumber. The Slumber itself maneuvers sleeping knights to repel Rowan, but she fights them back, drawing on the tempting call of her new power.
Forcing through a court of deadly, sleeping dancers, Rowan is disarmed and finds herself before the planeswalker, Ashiok. The nightmare-weaver brings Rowan to meet the current occupant of the castle and creator of the Slumber – the witch Eriette.
Rowan is enthralled by the Witch’s words, her insight into Rowan’s pain. Eriette sent the vision of Rowan’s parents that drew her to the castle. The ‘blood’ she was seeking is that of the witch, revealed to be Rowan’s aunt. Eriette asks Rowan to kindle the side of her magic that she has denied for so long.
The Slumber keeps its victims in a peaceful, happy dream, while Eriette commands the bodies of the sleepers. Rowan asks that Eriette teach her, needing the strength to unite the realm and the comfort of family.
Kellan and Ruby climb the sky
Halfway up the beanstalk, Kellan and Ruby are guided by Troyan, a Vedalken wanderer. Peter’s injuries led to him staying behind.
Kellan drinks a potion provided by Troyan, granting him a temporary transformation into a frogfolk with magical jumping skills. Leaping their way to the castle in the clouds, the adventurers enter the giants’ domain. Pounding music sounds through the castle, a sign that the giants will be distracted and the group can get to work.
Kellan spots a huge golden goose, its honking betraying their position as intruders. A giant – the lady of the house, Beluna – hoists Kellan into the air but is stopped by Yorvo, king of the giants.

Interested in the strange band and their fae-given quest, Yorvo persuades Beluna to allow them to access the Mirror of Indrelon. In Beluna’s bedroom, Troyan speaks to the mirror and offers it the information that he was not born on Eldraine. In return, the mirror shows them the location of the second witch; a castle of ice, built over Loch Larent.
Wilds of Eldraine Episode 4 Recap – Ruby and the Frozen Heart
Returning to Edgewall, Kellan and Ruby find that the Slumber has spread further, claiming many more victims. The two discuss what makes a hero as they pass through the town and return to Peter’s home.
Wearing thick cloaks to fight off the chill of their destination, the two are taken through the town square. There, they are shown a puppet show, portraying their witch-slaying exploits.
Saying farewell to Peter partway through their journey, the two reach the frozen Loch Larent. The castle is immense and sprawling. The Witch Hylda speaks remotely to the children, summoning a blizzard full of frozen warriors.
As Kellan and Ruby are about to be killed by the warriors, Kellan reaches for the basket hilts and calls out desperately for his father’s help. The hilts ignite, creating golden lash-like blades.
Kellan fights through the other combatants but falls to the cold. Ruby carries him further through the snow towards the castle. Hylda tries to dissuade her all the while but Ruby pushes on undaunted.
Hylda tries again and again, but Ruby refuses to be swayed. Her determination and care win over the witch, who realizes her own bitter loneliness, and Hylda wills the blizzard to end.
Kellan and Ruby learn the truth of their quest
Kellan and Ruby are made to sleep and recover, and they wake to a warm breakfast. Hylda offers them her crown – the source of much of her power – to be taken to Talion as proof of defeat. She also arms them with the knowledge that Talion was the one that persuaded the witches to cast the Slumber in Eldraine’s defense. The Fae lord was the fourth of the casters and wishes for the harm they caused to be undone.
Returning to Talion’s court, Kellan angrily confronts the lord for his lies. Disillusioned with the nature of his quest, Kellan still agrees to defeat Eriette at Castle Ardenvale, in order to save the realm and finally learn the truth about his father. On returning to the cliffs outside Hylda’s castle, the boy breaks down in tears.
Wilds of Eldraine Episode 5 Recap – Broken Oaths
Kellan and Ruby have ridden to castle Ardenvale. Hylda has supplied Ruby with an enchanted blade of ice. Kellan is despondent, but they press on to the castle regardless.
Ruby drinks the remaining frogificarion potion that they gained on their trip into the clouds. She leaps and carries Kellan right over the castle gates.
Skulking through the castle halls, the two encounter Rowan, unaware of her current association with Eriette. At first bidding the children leave, Rowan overpowers the two with her magic.
Kellan is awoken by Ruby in the castle jail as conflict engulfs Ardenvale. Will’s knights lay siege to the castle, clashing against Eriette’s sleepers.
Imodaine leads the knights, flame magic surging into the throne room. Rowan moves to Eriette’s defense, spotting Will in frost-coated armor.
The twins speak across the battlefield, Will beseeching Rowan to come home, and Rowan trying to get Will to see that she’s working to save the realm.
Rowan surges through Will’s forces and levels her blade at her brother. The twins come to blows, swords and spells clashing, much to Will’s despair and Rowan’s shame.
The battle appears to be going in Will’s forces’ favor, but Ashiok manifests and empowers the dreamers, turning the tide.
Rowan drops Imodaine and turns her attentions fully to Will, fire against ice. Her words lash into him as keenly as her blade.
Among the fray, Kellan takes his chance and holds Ashiok in place long enough for Will to hit the Planeswalker with a powerful bolt of ice. Ashiok saves themself by planeswalking away, leaving Rowan and Eriette without their assistance.
Sending defeat, Eriette bids Rowan retreat for now and save herself. Refusing even the idea of Will’s forgiveness, Rowan charges the full extent of her power and soars away with a crack of thunder.
Some time following the battle, Ashiok returns to Eldraine, freeing Eriette from imprisonment. Though Eriette wishes to bring Rowan with them, Ashiok insists she is not yet ready. The Planeswalker then takes the witch away to a new plane, enacting an inscrutable plan.
Kellan learns the truth of himself at last
After the battle is done, Will thanks Kellan and Ruby, assuring them that they would be honoured guests in his castle.
Slipping away from any celebration, Kellan returns to the Fae realm, and then to his home and family in Orrenshire. Greeted with tears, joy and an enchanted cloak, Kellan tells his mother that he declined Talion’s reward of knowledge, wishing to hear the whole truth from her instead.
Kellan’s mother tells him that his father was Oko – a powerful Planeswalker of Eldraine, now gone to planes beyond. She loved him dearly once, but is happier here with her mortal family.
Walking once more into the night, Kellan is consumed with thoughts of his father, and why he has never come to meet him. Out in the dark, Kellan finds a strange portal once more. But this is no Fae gate, it is a Omenpath. Wondering if this is Oko’s way of reaching out, Kellan steps through to worlds unknown.
