Everything we saw at September’s PlayStation State of Play

Sony held another State of Play on September 24, 2024. This time, it featured announcements and updates for PlayStation 5 and PSVR2 games, including the reveal of the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.

Outside of the big PlayStation 5 Pro announcement earlier this month, Sony has been pretty quiet lately when it comes to gaming news. Since PlayStation skipped Gamescom, we haven’t really heard much from them since the last State of Play in late May.

That finally changed, somewhat, thanks to the announcement of a State of Play for September 2024. And while Concord might not be making any big announcements for future content updates, there were other big reveals.

Here is everything announced during the event and when these games will be released.

Astro Bot Free Update – Fall 2024

The smash hit Astro Bot is receiving new content in Fall 2024. These include new speed-run levels and new bots for you to rescue. This will be part of a free update that will add even more robot cameos to the current roster.

The Midnight Walk

The Midnight Walk State of Play reveal trailer PS5Sony

This is a new game by the creators of Lost in Random. This claymation-inspired title borrows heavily from Tim Burton movies, with cute and horrifying characters thriving in a scare-filled world. The game is also PSVR2 compatible, making its first-person view an even more terrifying prospect for players.

The Midnight Walk is launching on both PS5 and PSVR2. The game currently has no launch window.

Hell is Us

Developed by Nacon, Hell is Us is a post-apocalyptic action game. It has a Death Stranding mixed with Devil May Cry vibe, with nightmarish alien monsters contrasted against its gorgeous landscapes, with a bit of Dark Souls’ aesthetic thrown in.

Metro Awakening – November 7, 2024

The Metro series, based on the novels by Dmirty Glukhovsky, is all about humanity forced to flee underground by monsters. The franchise is making the jump to VR, in Metro Awakening on PSVR2. You play as a father looking for their lost daughter, which means exploring the horrors that stalk the world, ranging from monsters to other humans.

Metro Awakening is coming to PSVR2 on November 7.

ArcheAge Chronicles

The latest game in the ArcheAge series brings exciting fantasy battles in Black Myth: Wukong style to PS5. Not only do you fight, but you can even build houses and survive the perils of family life. Hopefully, your home will survive all the dragons and giants wandering around.

Palworld – Available Today

Sony must not be too worried about Nintendo’s Palworld lawsuit, as the monster collecting/survival game was shadow-dropped during the State of Play. Get it now before The Pokemon Company devours it whole.

Palworld is available now on PS5.

Lunar Remastered Collection – Spring 2025

Some of the best old-school JRPGs without Final, Fantasy, Dragon, or Quest in their names are coming to modern systems. This collection contains remastered versions of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete, both cherished RPGs from the 32-bit era.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge – Radical Reptiles DLC is available today on PS4 and PS5.

Fantasian Neo Dimension – December 5, 2024

The creator and the composer of the Final Fantasy series have reunited for this JRPG. The visuals use 3D dioramas, reminiscent of the Octopath Traveler worlds, except with 3D characters on 2D backgrounds. Also, turn-based battles are back, baby!

Fantasian Neo Dimension is coming to PS4 and PS5 on December 5, 2024.

Fortnite DualSense Controller

The Fortnite fans on PS5 have a gorgeous new DualSense to look forward to, as this pretty controller is adorned with the game’s graffiti-style icons. It probably won’t make you a better Fortnite player, but it sure does look cool.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard – October 31, 2024

Alan Wake 2 – Lake House Expansion – October 2024

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered – October 31, 2024

Speaking of Aloy, her original adventure is coming to PS5. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered has upgraded the visuals, added full DualSense support, improved the mocap, and comes bundled with The Frozen Wilds DLC, which continues the story.

Sick the bland white of the base PS5 and not artistic enough to accessorize? Sony announced new Indigo, Pearl, and Teal Chrome-style plates for the console, with matching DualSenses to go with them.

Chroma Pearl and Chroma Indigo accessories will launch on November 7, 2024, followed by Chroma Teal accessories, which will launch on January 23, 2025.

The closing announcement of the show involved the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. The new game is called Ghost of Yotei, and rogue samurai are hunting its protagonist. This means you’ll have to return to the world of stealth and katanas, with a gorgeous open world based in Japan.

Ghost of Yotei is coming to PS5 in 2025.
