Electronic giants Sony provided gaming fans with the first official look at the PS5 logo at CES 2020, as well as some of the hardware features that the console will boast at launch.
With the PlayStation 5 having already been confirmed to be releasing sometime during the Holiday 2020 period, the rest of the time between now and then will be spent on more information being revealed for the highly-anticipated console.
The most recent wave of new info came on January 6, during the Consumer Technology Association’s annual trade show and tech expo, as Sony unveiled the PS5’s official logo and five hardware features.
Official PS5 logo revealed at CES 2020
The logo is very similar to the one they used for the PS4. In fact, it’s virtually identical in every way except for the fact that the number 4 has been replaced with a 5.

Predictably, instantly after the reveal, a large majority of the worldwide gaming community expressed sarcasm and frustration at how little had been changed in the logo from the previous generation.
Five new hardware features announced for PS5
More importantly, however, Sony also discussed some of the console’s hardware features, announcing five new ones.
- 3D Audio Sound
- Haptics / Adaptive Triggers
- Ultra-high-speed SSD
- Hardware-based Ray Tracing
- Ultra HD Blu-Ray
Several of these features had been leaked and/or assumed due to comments made by Sony representatives prior to CES, but this is the first time that the company has directly confirmed that all of these specs will be included in the console.

This comes on top of some of the hardware specs that had already been announced previously, such as the CPU, which will be a third-generation AMD Ryzen with eight cores and a custom Radeon Navi.
The console will support up to 8K with potentially full 4K support, backwards compatibility with PS4 games and PSVR hardware, 100GB optical disks and a completely revamped UI.
There are, of course, other specs that have been leaked in recent weeks and months, although none of them have been confirmed by Sony.
As for the release date, nothing was announced on that front, with Sony simply reiterating on Twitter that the console would be available “this holiday.”
According to leaks, the release date will be November 20, 2020, which would make sense considering it would be perfectly in time for the Christmas shopping period. However, that date remains purely speculative at this point.
