Ubisoft previously unveiled The Division Heartland as a free-to-play entry in its popular RPG shooter series. Here is everything we know about the now-canceled Division game.

Ubisoft introduced players to The Division franchise back in 2016, with The Division 2 following in 2019. Pitting players into a war-torn New York City and Washington D.C., respectively, it’s up to you to survive as an elite sleeper agent to deal with unprecedented threats.

Both games feature co-op gameplay, meaning you’re never alone in the fight. But Ubisoft decided to take The Division franchise to the next level with a free-to-play installment.

Is there a release date for The Division Heartland?

No, Ubisoft has officially canceled the Division game. Ahead of a May 15, 2024 earnings call, Ubisoft reportedly sent an email to staff about ceasing development on the project.

The publisher issued the following statement to Insider Gaming: “After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately.

“Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our Red Storm Entertainment studio, who will be transitioning to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”

Heartland is no longer a part of Ubisoft’s plans to expand the franchise.

The game was originally announced in May 2021, as Ubisoft laid out its plans for building The Division universe across multiple entertainment mediums.

What platforms will it be on?

Before its cancellation, Heartland was slated to launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X and PC platforms.

The first trailer was revealed during the Ubisoft Forward presentation on September 10, 2022.

The Division Heartland: Gameplay details

This particular entry was set to evolve on what players already love about the franchise. A now-deleted Ubisoft storefront description described the experience as follows:

“Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland is a free-to-play survival-action multiplayer shooter set in small-town Middle America. Play as one of six agents and select between three classes each match, all with their own perks and skills.”

The game would’ve taken place in Silver Creek, which is touted as the “heartland” of America.

As for the gameplay experience, Ubisoft had teased that players would “fight together in 45-player PvEvP Storm Operations” while “surviving a lethal virus.” This would’ve involved the completion of “PvE missions”, gathering new gear, and prepping for “Excursion Operations.”

New threats known as “The Vultures” were also teased as another presence on the battlefield, possibly making combat deadlier than ever.
