The developers of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 have finally given fans an extended look at the gameplay that will appear in the game’s new iteration.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 faced many behind-the-scenes issues, with development switching to another studio mid-production.
Not only has the developer switched to The Chinese Room, but the game has faced other major changes. The protagonist is no longer a low-level Thin-Blood, but an elder vampire named Phyre, who is awoken in the modern era with gaps in their memory and strange arcane marks on their body.
After several months of playable clan reveals, the developers of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 finally gave their promised extended look at the gameplay, giving fans their first proper glimpse at what the final product will look like.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 gameplay revealed
The trailer appeared on the official World of Darkness YouTube channel, showing one of the opening missions in the game, where Phyre is tracking down Willem, a secretive member of clan Nosferatu, in search of information about her marks.
In the trailer, Willem affects Phyre’s mind, trapping her in an illusion where she faces vampires and sentient mannequins in a warehouse. The trailer shows off the action/stealth gameplay, with Phyre leaping around the arena and bashing enemies to pieces with physical attacks.

The trailer showed off the physical vampire Disciplines that act as super speed and strength, as well as the power of Auspex, which allows players to see hidden objects and determine information about their foes. Phyre also has limited telekinesis, allowing her to move objects with her mind.
The game’s dialogue options were showcased as well, though these seem to be limited, with a handful of options presented in the text. Phyre is also dealing with Fabien, the vampiric voice in her head, who often comments on what’s happening in the game.
Regarding RPG elements, the developers revealed that the player defines Phyre’s backstory through her communication with modern-day vampires. As Phyre is a living legend from nearly a century ago, the player gets to decide what kind of person she was in the olden days.
The visuals in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 still need some polish, especially in the animation department, but the gameplay and level design are impressive. The developers have plenty of time to iron out the issues, as the game still has a Fall 2024 release date, so a future trailer might offer a better look at the quality of the final product.
