After six years of development and being left in a paid Alpha, Cube World is finally launching to the public. Here’s what you need to know about the game that’s being labeled as the ‘new Minecraft.’
When it comes to picking up a video game, you could easily jump into something with a vast landscape and incredible story like Grand Theft Auto, or even test your FPS skills in either CS:GO or Call of Duty.
However, sometimes it’s just better to take a load off and relax with a game that doesn’t quite have an end goal, but will also leave you wondering where the hours went as you play. We’ve already seen that phenomenon with the mega-popular Minecraft, but there’s a new challenger to the throne – and it comes in the form of Cube World.
What is Cube World?
Cube World is described by its developer Picroma as a “Voxel-Based Exploration RPG Back to top.” The voxel element of the title gives it a unique art style and similar layout to Minecraft, but with fewer square blocks.
Players take on the role of a character – either a warrior, rogue, ranger, or mage – and are dropped into a fresh world. These classes all involve their own armor, weapons, and abilities – meaning that your experience will change depending on which role you select.
It is then up to you to decide what you want to do. You can go on quests and missions, defeat enemies in spawned castles and dungeons, or just even walk around a virtually infinite world.
Cube World gameplay
While the game has been in development since 2013, getting to witness in-game videos or screenshots has been sporadic, with the developer’s only releasing one update following its alpha release.
However, after revealing a number of things players can expect in future updates, including new food recipes, improved dungeons, and travel systems, Picroma dropped a 16-minute long gameplay video of a Mage character so you can take a look at what you might be getting into.

Is Cube World a multiplayer game?
According to it’s new Steam listing, the game comes in two forms. There’s single-player and online multiplayer co-op.
However, it has not yet been confirmed if – like Minecraft – players will be able to launch their own servers to play alongside friends, or if they’ll be dropped into a vast public lobby and experience wait times like World of Warcraft.
Where to download Cube World
While the game is surging in players following updates from its developer, they are early adopters who bought into the paid alpha back in 2013.
However, Picroma has revealed that the title will be launching on Steam “around the end of September/October 2019,” so you’ll be able to find it there. At the time of writing, there is no price for the game on its page, but it can be added to your Steam wishlist if you would like to do that.
