Wuthering Waves is an open-world Action RPG gacha game by Kuro Game Studio. Here is a discussion on how pity works so that you can obtain a guaranteed 5-star rating in the game.
Wuthering Waves is a brand-new name in the gacha game market. The title released on May 22, 2024. This game features an open-world setting similar to Genshin Impact. It also features combat, animations, and graphics that are far superior to most competitors.
The game also features a gacha, where you can drop pulls to receive characters (Resonators) and weapons. Every gacha game has a pity system where you will eventually receive a 5-star character once you hit a certain number of pulls.
If you want information on how the pity system works, we have you covered.
Wuthering Waves wishing currency explained
There are three types of wishes in Wuthering Waves:
- Lustrous Tides: This is your standard banner wish. You can use this wish on the Beginner Banner and Utterance of Marvels as well
- Radiant Tides: This is your limited banner wish that you can use to pull for characters like Jiyan or Yinlin.
- Forging TIdes: This is a special wish that will be usable only in the limited weapon banner. This makes it easier to save for characters and weapons a lot easier.
How does the pity system work?
The pity system of Wuthering Waves is quite forgiving, where you will get the most value for your pulls. Here is what you need to know about it:
Character Banners
- Limited Banner: You are guaranteed to receive a 5-star in 80 pity. Your first 5-star will be a 50/50 chance between a standard banner character and the limited rate-up character. If you receive a standard banner character as your first 5-star, your next one will be a guaranteed rate-up unit.
- Standard Banner: You are guaranteed to receive Verina, Calcharo, Jianxin, Encore, and Ling Yang in 80 pity.
Weapon Banners
- Limited Banner: 100% guarantee to receive the 5-star limited weapon in 80 pity.
- Standard Banner: 100% guarantee to receive a standard banner weapon of your choosing in 80 pity.
The weapon banner is probably the best in this game, as regardless of what you do, you are guaranteed to receive what you wish for. The character banners are also quite good, though these are the standard rates for almost any gacha game.
How to get a guaranteed 5-star?
There are two ways to get a guaranteed 5-star in Wuthering Waves. The methods have been discussed below:

Utterance of Marvels
This is a starter banner where you will receive one guaranteed 5-star in 50 wishes. The 5-star characters you can receive from this banner are Calcharo, Jianxin, Verina, Encore, or Lingyang. It is very easy to get the 5-star as you will have more than 40 wishes the moment you log in to the game through the live stream and pre-registration rewards.
Beginner Banner Convene
The second way to get a guaranteed 5-star is from the Beginner Banner Convene. This banner opens after you pull a 5-star from Utterance of Marvels. This banner’s specialty is targeting the 5-star you want among Calcharo, Jianxin, Verina, Encore, and Lingyang.
You will receive your chosen 5-star after 80 pulls.
Apart from that, the only way to get 5-stars is to pull in the Standard or Characters banners after making close to 80 wishes.
Wuthering Waves soft pity explained
Wuthering Waves does have a hard pity, and a much more forgiving one at that – at least, compared to other Gacha games. If you keep pulling, you’ll eventually be able to unlock the 5-star you want in the game. But unless you’re spending money to buy Lunites, knowing how soft pity works is essential so you can expect when you’ll get your desired pull.
Unlike hard pity, where you’ll be able to get a guaranteed 5-star at 80 pulls, soft pity works a bit differently. Instead of getting a 5 star after a certain threshold, the soft pity increases your chances over time for each time you pull after a certain number of pulls.
To sum it up, the more frequently you pull, the higher your odds are due to soft pity. At the moment, the exact number or percentage of soft pity is unknown, which is expected since Wuthering Waves has just been out, and something like this is usually discovered by the player base over time.
However, assuming that soft pity starts at 50 pulls, the odds of getting a 5-star will increase after getting past that number.
