Among Us, the insanely popular mobile and PC game, is due for a major update, confirmed by the developers. Here’s everything we know about it, including all the confirmed changes and new content.
Despite originally releasing in 2018, Among Us has blown up in the latter half 2020. And with tons of streamers playing the game on a daily basis, it’s easy to see why. Some have even attributed it to the decline of Fall Guys on Twitch, as it’s basically stolen its top spot.
Because of this, Among Us developers Innersloth have canceled the previously in-development sequel, and will instead focus all resources from that title to the original. This means that Among Us is going to be getting a ton of new content in the near future.
What’s coming in this new update?
In the announcement that the sequel had been canceled, the developers confirmed a number of different features that were currently in the works.
This includes a friends/account system, presumably so that players can party up faster, a brand new stage for players to sink their teeth into, and colorblind support.

In addition, the developer also confirmed that they are working on a fix for the server problems that have been plaguing Among Us for a while now. Currently, it’s not unusual for players to see an error message when attempting to load into the game, so a fix for this problem would certainly be welcome.
- Improved Servers and stability
- Colorblind support
- Friends/Account System
- A new stage – a Henry Stickmin themed location!
Finally, the developers also announced recently that they are considering a custom map editor for the game, which would bring an insane amount of replayability to the title.
When is the new update coming?
This is the big unknown right now. Currently, there’s no release date for the new update planned, although it wouldn’t be unreasonable to speculate that it wouldn’t be coming for at least a few more months.

For the server improvements specifically, InnerSloth said: “We don’t have an ETA but things should hopefully be getting better and better.”
Transferring over everything they had planned for the sequel to this game can’t be an easy task, especially since InnerSloth is a small development team, so it might be a while before fans get their hands on it.
We also don’t know if all of the aforementioned features are coming in one major update or if the content will be dripped out in smaller updates as it’s finished.
