Munchlax and Snorlax are now available in Gen 9 thanks to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s Teal Mask DLC. Here’s where to catch Munchlax, how to evolve it, and where to find a sleeping Snorlax.
Snorlax has been one of the series’ most popular monsters ever since it made its debut in Gen 1, and its pre-evolution introduced in Gen 4, Munchlax, has always been a rare find in games. They’re just two of a long list of returning Pokemon in the expansion.
Munchlax has an interesting evolution method, too, which we’ll explain in this guide.
So, let’s take a look at where you can find both of them in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s Kitakami region.
Where to find Munchlax in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
According to its Pokedex entry, Munchlax is a rare spawn in the overworld. Thankfully, trainers can look in two locations for a chance to find it.
Wild Munchlax spawn throughout Wistful Wilds and the Kitakami Wilds.
Where to find Snorlax in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Contrary to its pre-evolution, Snorlax isn’t naturally found in the wild around Kitakami. However, there is a lone, static encounter that trainers can use to catch a Snorlax straight away.

A solitary sleeping Snorlax can be found in front of a cave on the south side of the Timeless Woods. Trainers should save before encountering this Snorlax, as it is the only one that spawns in the wild.
Thankfully, should you knock out this Snorlax or fail to catch it, it will respawn after a certain amount of time. So if you miss your opportunity, explore Kitakami for a while and then come back to the cave and try again.
How to wake up Snorlax
Waking up the sleeping Snorlax is easy, as simply throwing a Poke Ball at the Snorlax will wake it up and immediately start a battle.
How to evolve Munchlax in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Munchlax will evolve into Snorlax when it is leveled up with high friendship. Trainers can raise a Pokemon’s friendship by making sandwiches, battling with it, or giving it the Soothe Bell Held Item. Additionally, the Pokemon Wash feature will also raise friendship.
