With E3 2019 winding down it’s time to take a look at which games managed to get the most players hyped for their upcoming releases.
As always there were some big names at E3 this year, but the conference was missing Sony and EA, the latter choosing instead to throw their own pre-E3 party.
Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, even admitted that he was disappointed Sony didn’t make an appearance.
Despite the absences, there were still plenty of games that got players excited. Now, thanks to the brains over at Thinknum who tracked sales data from Amazon and Gamestop, we have data that shows which games “won” E3 2019.
The presale data doesn’t lie
It’s impossible to tell which games will be best-sellers based solely on E3, but at GameStop Cyberpunk 2077 held the number 1 and 3 spots according to Thinknum’s aggregated sales rank data from June 10 (the day it debuted on Gamestop’s website) to June 14.
This means Cyberpunk pre orders even beat out Playstation and Xbox gift cards, which are constantly a top seller.
Below are the most sold items at GameStop during E3 2019 (note: items that are italicized/bold were announced at E3 2019).

Over at Amazon, it was the Final Fantasy VII remake that stole the show and, surprisingly enough, Cyberpunk was nowhere near the top ten on Amazon (it was actually last on Thinknum’s list).
Another hit on Amazon was The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and its affiliated Amiibo series.
This doesn’t mean that the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Cyberpunk 2077 will be the best-selling games of 2020 though. Preorder data went up on June 14, so there’s still a chance for the hype to die down.

What’s the deal with Cyberpunk?
People were excited for CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 long before Keanu Reeves came out and told fans that we were all breathtaking (thanks again Keanu), but the addition of Neo seems to have sent the hype machine into overdrive.
Thanks to Reeves, we also know that Cyberpunk will come out on April 16, 2020. Not quite a year, but quite a while to wait for players who want nothing more than to run around a neon-filled dystopia/utopia with John Wick.
The zealot-like loyalty of Final Fantasy fans will definitely make the FFVII Remake a force to be reckoned with as well when it comes out on March 3, 2020.
