EA Responds to Shooting at Madden Tournament

Madden developer Electronic Arts issued a statement following the mass shooting at a Madden esports tournament in Jacksonville, Florida.

The shooting took place at an EA sanctioned event that was part of the Madden Championship Series. Multiple fatalities have been confirmed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, at the moment there are 14 injuries and three confirmed deaths.

Following the incident, EA expressed its sympathy for the victims

“This is a horrible situation, and our deepest sympathies go out to all involved.”

Due to the active investigation of the tragedy, EA has not released any more details at this time.

The tournament was a satellite event with the winners qualifying for the 2019 Madden Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Some of the best Madden players in the world were competing in the Jacksonville tournament, including Shay Kivlen, winner of last years Madden Bowl.

Kivlen tweeted after the shooting that he was safe.

The situation is developing and names of the victims have not been released.
