Following the spread of inaccurate information, a Helldivers 2 developer has explained how abandoning operations affects the in-game war effort.
A Helldivers 2 player recently posted a PSA on Reddit urging fellow users to not abandon missions before completion. The concern was that leaving mid-operation would basically give a free win to the enemy with respect to the “planetwide/galactic campaign.”
In other words, players feared another great loss for Super Earth, especially since most quitters were doing so to farm XP and Requisition. An Arrowhead developer, Evil-Bosse on Discord, lent credence to these concerns, too, saying that “quitting after only half the op counts as a loss for super earth.”
Fortunately, details from another staffer have set the record straight once and for all.
Helldivers 2 dev sets record straight about abandoning operations
Helldivers developer and Reddit user AGHS_Misty cleared up the confusion in a response to a post that’s since garnered over 12,000 upvotes. According to their comment, a player’s early exit from a mission does no harm to the overarching war effort.

The developer explained, “I can confirm that abandoning an operation does not progress the enemy’s percentage, so people who leave operations do not negatively affect a planet. Unfortunately, Evil-Bosse got it wrong, but we all make mistakes!”
Evil-Bosse replied to the Reddit discussion as well, admitting they were in the wrong. “Can confirm, I was accidentally spreading false information, you have my humble apologies.”
At the very least, this clarification about operations means Helldivers 2 players have one less thing to worry about as they continue to fight for Super Earth.
The sequel hit the ground running earlier this month, achieving critical acclaim and commercial success on PC and PS5. Now players patiently await the release of future updates, which leaks suggest could introduce a new faction, stratagems, and more.
