The Helldivers 2 community want the devs to add melee weapons to the game, with many believing the addition will help them further in their fight for Super Earth.
Helldivers 2 features a deadly variety of weapons and lifesaving armor sets to use. While many troopers are currently awaiting the release of mechs and offroad vehicles, that hasn’t stopped them from wanting more content.
In fact, one of the most eagerly anticipated additions to the game is melee weapons. As with any horde-based game, Helldivers 2 players can often find themselves being overrun with enemies, particularly Terminids who swarm their targets.
So, to help tackle the Super Earth threats, the Helldivers 2 community wants the devs to add some more deadly close-quarter options.
Helldivers 2 community wants melee weapons added
Commenting on the official Helldivers 2 Reddit page, one player showcased the number of melee kills, jokingly claiming “they won’t stop” until the devs add a proper melee weapon. Currently, the only melee option players have at their disposal is their gun, which can be used to bludgeon enemies.
While this can get you out of a tight pinch against weaker foes, it lacks the overall oomph or spectacle of a dedicated melee weapon.

“Honestly, it’d be cool if we could get melee options both as secondaries and as drop-down special weapons,” commented one player. “Maybe even some you could use in tandem with your pistol like the ballistic shield.”
Others were keen to point out how some new melee weapons would only help to spread the community’s freedom and democracy across the galaxy. “A sword for quick slashing through mobs and a hammer for cracking armor would be extremely democratic,” joked one player.
While others noted how hammers and lightsabers would make excellent additions. “Sometimes all the aliens need is a good bonk but the butt of the gun ain’t satisfying enough.,” replied one commenter. “Give me a hammer or a fucking lightsaber.”
It’s important to note that the devs still have loads of content from Helldivers 1 to add, with the Illuminate faction and Sabers amongst the most hyped additions. After all, Sabers were usable in Helldivers 1’s Proving Grounds, unique missions where players could try out new gear.
Whether the devs will be adding challenge missions tailored around using melee weapons, or if they will add them into the wider weapon pool remains to be seen. Either way, it’s clear that the Helldivers 2 is eager to add melee weapons to their arsenal.
