Helldivers 2 players want the devs to nerf Chargers following the Railgun damage changes, with many believing there aren’t enough counters.
The latest Helldivers 2 patch notes are now live and the devs have brought a whole of host changes to the game. One of the biggest was the nerfs to the Railgun, one of the best Helldivers 2 weapons thanks to its high damage and armor-piercing capabilities.
This is particularly useful when facing Helldivers 2’s tackiest enemies, which can quickly overwhelm players at higher difficulty levels. Chargers are one such enemy that can be extremely difficult to take down, especially when there are groups of them.
While the Railgun was the perfect counter to these monolithic Terminids, the recent nerfs have left many players struggling to take them down.
Helldivers 2 players demand Charger nerfs
As of March 6, 2024, the devs have decreased the Railgun’s armor penetration and damage against durable enemy parts. This means players will have to take extra care when facing Chargers, an enemy that is known for its high armor, health, and mobility.
“The [Railgun] nerf wouldn’t matter if the frequency of Chargers wasn’t so high. If you’re not going to reduce their armor values, reduce their stamina so they can’t basically run forever, reduce their turn speed, make their weak spot an actual weak spot,” wrote one frustrated player.

“The only other way the nerf makes sense would be to reduce the sheer spam of them on higher difficulties. Except we got none of that.” Currently, Helldivers can encounter groups of Chargers on Terminid planets on higher difficulties, which can lead to some incredibly frustrating combat scenarios.
While the Railgun may have overperformed, the community believes there are very few counters to Charger spam. As for how Chargers could be tweaked, one player noted how their weak point should be more vulnerable.
“Let us be more efficient at popping their butts if we can outmaneuver them. That’s really the annoying thing, unloading onto their asses isn’t as efficient as it feels it should be,” wrote one player.
“The breaker could do it in a magazine pre-nerf. I don’t know, I just feel like the 10% damage to their unarmoured abdomens is a bit much, even if it’s 100% with explosive weapons. Maybe lessen the reduction for normal weapons a little?”
Whether the devs will tweak Chargers or buff any more weapons, the community believes these tanky bugs will continue to run rampant.
