Everything we know about Ambessa Medarda in LoL: Release date, abilities & more

Ambessa Medarda is coming to League of LegendsNetflix

Though Arcane is entirely themed around existing champions in League of Legends, Ambessa Medarda is the first to make her way to the game from the show. Here’s everything we know about her, including when she’s meant to release and a look at her in-game.

It’s worth noting that the only leaks related to Ambessa Medarda’s in-game look are tied to Wild Rift rather than League of Legends, but both versions of the character are meant to release around the same time to help promote Arcane Season 2.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Riot provided a “sneak peek at what [they’ve] got planned to celebrate Arcane” across all their games, including more details about Ambessa.

“Earlier this year, we announced Ambessa, making her the first character to go from Arcane to the Rift. When the Arcane team worked on her during season one, we were very excited by her speed, power and domination, and we couldn’t wait to see how she’d play in League and Wild Rift.”

The developers almost noted that her inclusion would “pass beyond the Rift” and that she would also be playable in Legend of Runeterra’s Path of Champions. Furthermore, she will also be a playable unit in TFT.

What are Ambessa Medarda’s abilities in League of Legends?

Ambessa Medarda is a semi-ranged top lane bruiser with a ton of mobility. Considering her passive allows her to dash after every ability cast, she’s able to jump around unlike most other champions in the game. Hopefully we don’t have another K’Sante situation on our hands.

Here’s a full rundown of her kit and what her abilities do.

Passive: Drakehound’s Step

  • When Ambessa is casting an ability, issuing a move or attack order will cause her to dash in that direction after the ability finishes. Each cast initiation grants her a charge for 4 seconds (max 3 charges). While Ambessa has a charge, she gains 100 attack range and 50% attack speed.
    • Attacks consume a charge to deal (5-15 (scaling with player level) +25% bonus AD) physical damage and restore (40-70) energy.

Q: Cunning Sweep/Sundering Slam

  • Cunning Sweep
    • Ambessa sweeps her blades forward, dealing (40/60/80/100/120 +60% bonus AD) + ((2/3/4/5/6% +0.03 bonus AD) max health) physical damage to enemies at the edge of the strike. All other enemies take 50% damage. Landing this ability readies Sundering Slam.
  • Sundering Slam
    • Ambessa slams her blades down, dealing (50/75/100/125/150 +90% bonus AD) + ((2/3/4/5/6% +0.04 bonus AD) max health) damage against the first enemy hit. All other enemies take 50% damage.
  • Cooldown: 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 (The cooldown for this ability initiates after Cunning Sweep)

W: Repudiation

  • Ambessa gains (85-250 scaling with player level +150% bonus AD) shield for 1.5 seconds and braces herself for 0.5 seconds. She then slams the ground, dealing (50 +50% bonus AD) physical damage to nearby enemies, which increases to (80 +80% bonus AD) physical damage if she braced herself from damage from an enemy champion, large monster, or structure.
  • Cooldown: 18/17/16/15/14

E: Lacerate

  • Ambessa whips her chains around, dealing (40/70/100/130/160 +40/50/60/70/80% bonus AD) physical damage and slowing enemies by 99%, decaying over 1 second. Initiating Drakehound’s Step from this ability will trigger an additional strike.
  • Cooldown: 13/12/11/10/9

R: Public Execution

  • Passive: Ambessa gains 10/20/30% armor pen, and her abilities heal her for (10/12.5/15% +50% lifesteal) of the damage she dealt. Healing is 25% effective against minions and 40% effective against monsters.
  • Active: Ambessa becomes Unstoppable and blinks to the farthest enemy champion in a line, Suppressing the target for 0.75 seconds and then slamming them into the ground, dealing (150/250/350 +100% bonus AD) and Stunning them for 0.4 seconds.
  • Cooldown: 130/115/100
